Q: insufficient space for full migration

Hi all,

Ive just changed from an iMac to an Air and trying to use migration assistant. My problem is that the iMac has a 1TB drive and the Air is only 128GB.

Can I use an external HDD to add more storage to the Air for the migration so that I can get everything off in one go?

Thanks

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

I think you need to add the external drive to the iMac and move all of your media files on to that first. You applications and the OS should easily fit inside 128GB.

Then use migration assistant for the whatever is left on your iMac boot drive and plug the external HDD into the MacBook Air to access everything that is on there.

You can't specify with migration assistant where to put different files, so just plugging the external drive into the Air first isn't going to help.
