Totally worked for me!!!! Tried all the other solutions and this is the only one that worked. I thought the 25$ a year to back up music was a smart idea but its been more of a hassle than investment!!!! 9

Or maybe I'm just not smart enough to master iCloud. Thanks again!!!

I did the same thing. Not only do I have duplicates everywhere but half of the songs in my library (over 1000) have the exact same title, but when you click on it, it plays the correct song. How can this error be fixed?

So many comments on here now!!

For those who seen my solution and thanked me, you're welcome!

I can't believe Apple still hasn't fixed this!

Is it just me, or is Apple and especially iTunes getting unnecessarily complicated?  Unfortunately with the passing of Steve Jobs also went simplicity! :-(

This happened to me after a warranty hardware replacement and doing a restore.

I had to call Apple to get it solved.  Here is what worked:

    1. Turn off music syncing to the phone in the computer's iTunes.
    2. Sync to remove music.  Everything will be gone except the infernal iCloud duplicates.
    3. Make sure iTunes Match is off in the phone Settings.
    4. go to the iTunes & App Store settings on the phone.
    5. Click your apple id account and Sign Out
    6. Power off the phone
    7. When powered back on, all music should be gone.
    8. Then turn on music syncing in the computer's iTunes and resync the library.

Never would have figured that one out...  iCloud is a giant cluster of the F kind!

What's a restore?  Do you mean reset?

Come On Apple this is still an issue and it is now 2013. FIX IT!

The point of automatic download is for ease of use but no. I had to wipe iPad.  Then run backup only to find it wont sync apps unless they are held on computer.  You would think it would just use a list and put them back on from the host instead of using my computer as storage and a third party kinda deal.  I have spent 2 hours trying to fix this reasearching several different forums.  I am sad to say I am almost better off going back to windows and such with this level of difficulty and confusion. Come on Apple...Really!

Your solution worked for me!  I agree with everyone...Apple needs to get this fixed.

I encountered a similar issue. After I updated to iOS 7 beta 2 and restored from backup, I found all the songs on my phone to be duplicated. However, my music library's size (on my phone) was still the same and no duplicates showed up on my mac's iTunes.

In my case, the solution was quite simple. (again, that's on iOS 7)

1- Go to "Settings --> iTunes & App Stores

2- Under "Show All", uncheck "Music"

Let me know if it helped.

Okay - this has probably already been discussed, but I couldn't go through ALL of these reponses.  I too noiced duplicates on my iTunes and randomly on my devices - the duplicates had the cloud icon next to them.

The reason your library size did not increase is because one of the songs is the actual file and the other is "in the cloud".

On my PC in iTunes I went to View > Hide music in the Cloud and the duplicates are gone.  If you actually have duplicates in iTunes you can select "show duplicate items" to see the actual songs that are duplicated in iTunes.

I havent't checked my phone or ipad for a similar option, but I'm sure once I sync them up it will mirror my selection on iTunes.

Don't know if this helps any of your problems, but it solved mine when I came to this thread looking for help . . .

AWESOME!!! Worked for me. This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. And you are right about one thing, I'd have NEVER figured out how to fix this without your instructions. Thanks!!!

I was browsing through this post and think i found a solution (that's if no one else has posted it yet).

I have "Automatic Downloads" switched on on all devices including PC ( I use Windows). We were buying songs off of iTunes and they were automatically downloading to all iDevices as it should. But everyone's mistake including myself, was that we were syncing the songs back into the iDevice when it was already in it, making the device think you are adding a whole different song. So what i did is connect the iPhone and go to the "Music" tab, go to where it says "Albums" and uncheck every album you purchased from itunes and you dont want it to be duplicated. Don't just remove them from "Manually Added Songs" because not all of them will show up there. After you do that click "Sync" then "Apply", and your device will have only the songs you actually wanted to sync and the once that were downloaded automatically . It worked for me it doesn't hurt for you guys to give it a try. Good luck!!!

Simple! Go to preferences on iTunes. Under "store" uncheck the option "show iTunes in the Cloud purchases". Bingo!

    Actually not a bingo!

Did exactly as you stated and I still have duplicates of all 2300+ songs that I downloaded from iTunes showing up.
