I can't seem to install the drivers and Windows 7 without running into issues (operating on a 2013 13in Macbook Air, using external USB hard drive to store drivers, and USB CD drive for Windows 7 CD):

  • Attempt 1:
    • Download drivers and store on USB device.
    • Begin install for Windows 7 (following all directions as described in the manual, with USB device inserted).
    • Windows wouldn't allow me to install on the Bootcamp partition, even after formatting the partition.
    • Support conmmunities say that the USB hard drive device being connected is the problem. So I unplug and...
  • Attempt 2:
    • Keep USB hard drive unplugged and run installation (with drivers still ready on the device to import after initial installation)
    • Windows 7 allows me to install on the correct Bootcamp partition (assuming unplugging USB device helped).
    • Can't complete the installation because Windows asks for a screen name, which I can't enter because the keyboard doesn't work.
    • Support communities say that I need the drivers installed for keyboard to work...

Which brings me to the conundrum...how am I supposed to be able to complete Windows 7 installation (which requires the keyboard in the Windows environment) if none of the drivers are available to complete installation (ie keyboard doesnt work) and directions say to install drivers after you finish installation? Moreover, I can't leave USB device with drivers plugged in during installation.

Also, I have tried using an external USB keyboard/mouse with no luck. Please help.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
