Airplay icon is gone when I double click home button, but it still appears in iTunes...however, there is no option to use mirroring.  ipad and Apple TV both have most recent updates.  Any idea how to get mirroring back (and how to get airplay icon back into recent apps)??

    Here's an article:

Is AirPlay Mirroring enabled as shown?

As the article says, if you swipe the recently used apps twice from left to right, you should see the AirPlay icon regardless of whether it was recently used.

Is your WiFi on?  Is the Apple TV on the same WiFi?

I'll admit I've had similar problems ... after I've been out and about and forgot to turn on WiFi when I returned.

I can tell you there were firmware updates released today for AirPort Express, and the AirPort Utility was also updated today.  I don't know if that would affect your situation, but maybe ...

Glad it worked!  Hope you don't have to reset too often in the future.  Enjoy!

    Hi all,

Have the same issue as Breckskier.

Interesting problem, all other iPads work except mine on the same network.

The icon appears in iTunes to play music and works well with the ATV, also playing locally stored video has the icon displayed. But when I look for the mirroring icon its not there to use.

I have tried the same device on a different network with the same result where others work fine.

I dont want to reset the iPad because the restore takes hours over the network and sure it may fix the problem but I guess I will wait until IOS7, that may do the job. (and I've tried all the different resets possible)

I thought there may have been a setting that had been changed to stop showing the mirroring icon but I don't think so. Could have been an app update, who knows. Bit dissapointing though.

    System:

    iPad 2 - iOS v6.1.3(10B329) 32Gig

I tried resetting network only and my mirror icon re-appeared

    Thanks Ronald285, that worked fine.

Logical thing to try when you think about it.

    Thanks again.

Same problem here. Let me know if you hear of a better fix than resetting everything.
