HI Mel, thank you for your reply. As you said, I used another HDMI cable and the display appeared. I cannot believe how simple the solution was. Had spent many hours trying to sort out the problem.  Thanks

    I found a solution:

    On your Samsung TV:

Go to Picture/Screen adjustment/Picture Size and choose "Screen fit.

After this I have the full crisp HD resolution.

I have Samsung 32" HDTV LN-T3253H.  I had the same problem.  I connected my Mac Mini in the HDMI #1 port on the TV as directed by the TV owner's manual, then went to System preferences and selected 1360x768.

Hello Guys, I have a similar problem with my samsung LCD - just purchased a MiniMac (mid 2010) and try to connect it to the Samsung LCD via a VGA cable (the HDMI cable gives a blurry picture, and the seller said it is because "MiniMacs don't like Samsung Tvs...). And when I do what you say (going into Source, pushing Tools on the remote and "renaming" PC to... PC...), well nothing happens. The TV keep suggesting to use 1366X768x - which I do not have on my MacMini as an option in Display Resolution Settings. Now what...? thanks! MacMester.

Hello Noahr, it doesn't work on my or i just missed something. When I change the name to PC - nothing happens. Stays the same.

Okay, but what to do when your miniMac DO NOT have an option as 1360x768x in the Display Settings??? How do you get that resolution into the list to choose.... now that's a tricky question. Anyone care to solve the mystery...?  Screen Shot 2014-03-08 at 07.39.37.png

So my solution applies to an HDMI cable connection only.  Not to VGA cable.

The HDMI digital connection embeds in the signal the display resolution, and has some two-way negotiation capability with the source.

I won't speculate on all the reasons why, but a computer source seems to have a different expectation of what part of the display area is actually 'displayed'.  Computers are setup for 100% area, and everything else something less than that.

So, seting the source name to "PC" seems to be a special Samsung trick to make thta HDMI input understand it should display all the pixels from the computer -- and thus giving a nice 'crisp' looking 1:1 pixel ratio.

Try this with your HDMI cable.

Hello.  Sorry to bump this topic again, but I'm experiencing a version of the frustration many of you have endured.  My 3 day old Mac Mini will happily display itself very nicely via HDMI on my new Samsung Smart TV, but when I connect (HDMI) to an older Samsung TV, I get "mode not supported."  I've tried different cables in different directions. I've tried naming the HDMI as PC.  I've tried all the different resolutions.  Nothing works.  Are there any other options before I go and buy a new screen (and hope it recognises my Mac)?

    Thanks.

wopweeper, sorry man, i went through exactly what you went through and I searched and searched for the solution for hours, and couldn't find one. Went into three Mac stores, even brought the bloody Samsung LCD with me (you can imagine the hassle, carrying the bigass LCD with me accross a mall...), and nobody could solve the problem. So at the end, what I did was I SOLD the LCD and bought a HannsG monitor. And voila! - it works like a charm. I suspect the Mac guys just do not want to see a MacMini connected to a Samsung LCD panel. But here is what worked: I connect the MacMini to both the HannsG monitor and an LCD (i have another one), and I use the LCD for video only, and use the monitor for work. and it works all right! try that, if you can.  My MacMini is a 2010 model, by the way, and the Samsung LCD was a 2007 model. so maybe that is the clue. Honestly, this whole "let's find the solution to this Mac problem" reminds me a bit of those Air Crash Investigation doc films on TV: it takes a whole teeeeeeaaaam to figure out what went wrong.

    Hiya!
