Q: "No Mountable File Systems"

This appears to be a pretty known error. The only problem is, no solution seems to fix it. Lately I have been trying to download a few trials for software such as Little Snitch and Ableton(they both are amazing products from what I have heard). The only issue is for both of them the Disk Mounter gives me an error "No Mountable File Systems". This just started recently so I really have no idea what is going on. I tried opening them with Disk Utility as well and I get the same error. I also tried terminal commands and got the same error. There really seems to be no winning on this one. I really need to fix this ASAP.

Thanks.

Sorry, but I am a youngster for Mac (used other software since 1966 Olivetti 101, IBM1673, Fortran,GWBasic),

please explain how to find and how to delete /System/Library/Extensions/LexarFilterScheme.kext ,

I suppose that must be done with Unix commands, with which I am not familiar at all.

Lexar is probably my problem, I installed a memory stick on Saturday the 18th. Most programmes seem to work but not Open Office, deleted it but can't reinstall it, due to 'no mountable file systems' error.

Is there a manual for introduction in Unix language which you can recommend ?

If you go to Finder and hit "Go" in the top bar then hit "Go to Folder" (you have to enter everything before the LexarFilterScheme.kext, or at least I do because I don't have it) and locate the file which will be named LexarFilterScheme.kext. Then you literally just drag it to the trash and empty it.

Yes, this helped me. It did not resolve my problem. I deleted the original file too fast, before checking if it did exist. However, it is, after deleting, not in Trash.

With the 'Go To folder' I was able to detect all system library files which have been installed or modified after the first of January 2013. Those seem to be for the major part Mac files and only one third party file set: xcaliber-0.9.28.dmg. I have made sreen shots from all the 2013 files.

My next step will be to do a the check with the Unix commands recommended by another good helper.

Thanks, and thanks and more thanks.

Thanks.  It is the stupid LexarFilterScheme.kext in Mountain Lion also. I couldn't load Switch as I got the "no mountable file system" message.

Strangely, other .dmgs work fine. Anyhow, I ditched the Lexar kext and the message is gone.

What the heck is that kext for anyhow? Why does a printer company mess with .dmgs? Obviously they have no clue.

I had the same problem but did not have the LexarFilterscheme.kext file. However, I am including a link to Adobe forums where people posted the same problem. A staff member said it looked like that person had a damaged .dmg file. I was getting the same error message, also on a macbook pro. I downloaded the debugger flash player and that worked for me.

THANK YOU for posting this! I've just spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to recover a supposedly corrupted disk image containing some critical documents and tried your suggestion as a shot in the dark. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the .dmg at all - just this random file in my Extensions folder. You made my day!

I totally removed the program Secure made by Lexar with CleanApp but it did not catch the faulty item and I had to delete manually.  I cannot thank enough the person who found that crap and also the guys who are behind Default Folder who refered me here. I wrote to them about a problem with the Default Folder image and they helped me even if it was not their fault.

    ================

ANSWER I HAVE USED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

I finally tracked down my "no mountable file systems" errors tocom.lexar.driver.LexarFilterScheme - this is installed as part of a Lexar Jump Drive's secure II vault driver that my work requires me to use.   Doesn't seem to be a newer version on Lexar's site.

As soon as I deleted /System/Library/Extensions/LexarFilterScheme.kextand rebooted, the error went away.  Took me quite a while to isolate it to that piece of crap.

Hi there, I'm having a similar problem related to an encrypted file volume and I'm wondering if someone here could help. I'm trying to restore a TrueCrypt volume (a 10GB container I created) from a TimeMachine backup. The most recent versions of this file does not mount - I get the above mentioned "hdiutil: attach failed - no mountable files systems" . Strangely, When I go to my OLDEST time machine back ups - from about 8  months ago, and choose the file there, it mounts fine. SO, something happened to the file along the way as it was being backed up and I can't mount the latest version of it. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this to work? I have tried mounting it on my 10.8.4 and my 10.6.8 systems, and get the same error. I have made sure I have the latest version of MacFuse installed. I tried mounting in SafeMode and it doesn't work either.

One clue is that when I clicking the "read only" option in TrueCrypt, and checking the box for "do not mount" , it seems to load the file in True Crypt as a "hidden" file type, but of course I can't see the contents of the container anywhere because the volume is not mounted. Can anyone help here? Thanks so much - apologies in advance if I missed something obvious!

Open DiskUtility / Images / Convert

choose broken file (unmountable dmg image) and convert it to "DVD/CD master"

After ends you can mount it like a charm.

I am getting the slightly different error message "the backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/PETER’s iMac(2).sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error(null))". I am using Airport Time Capsule as my Time Machine and, up until today, it has been flawless. No new add-ons or products other than Yosemite. Any ideas? Thanks, Peter

I was unable to mount dmg files as well ("no mountable file system error").

After a long search and try and error (I was close to install OS X new from scratch) the solution was quite simple:

    1. Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    2. Click on "Macintosh HD" in the left column and then press the "Repair Disk Permissions button (so I did not repair the dmg file, I repaired the permission of my running OS X instead).

    The miracle happens!

    Mounting was running smoothly.

    I hope this helps others!

Thanks, Claudia. I gave up and went in to the Apple Store — it was seemingly a new thing for them too so they swapped out my unit for a new one.
