Serial number don't remember

My Aperture Mountain Lion Version 3 down't remember my serial number

    Mr. Woo,

    is the problem, that Aperture is asking over and over again for the serial number?

     

    To stop Aperture asking for the serial number, check, if you still have an old file "ProAppSystemID" in your System Library.

     

    1. Quit Aperture.
    2. Go to your MacintoshHD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
    3. Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.

     

    Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.

     

    Sometimes Aperture writes this file to a temporary directory, when it cannot write to the Library. If the above does not work, look at the temporary directory /tmp

     

    Use the Finder's "Go" menu

         Go > Got to folder    and  enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see the file there, move it to its proper location.

    I had the same problem, however I did not have a ProAppsSystemID file in /library.

    However I had this file in the /tmp folder, as mentioned in some posts.

     

    When I copied this ProAppsSystemID file to its correct location in /library/proapps Aperture stopped asking for Serial numbers.

    That just worked for me, but I had to adjust the ownership and acces rights of the file.

    If that needs to be done for you, go to Terminal and enter the following commands (assuming the file sits already in the correct directory):

     

    cd /Library/ApplicationSupport/ProApps

    sudo chown root:wheel ProAppsSystemID

    sudo chmod 666 ProAppsSystemID

     

    And voilá Aperture works as expected.

     

    p.s.: @Pierre: Please take note that the correct location is /Library/ApplicationSupport/ProApps

    and not /Library/ProApps as you stated above.

    I am having the exact same problem but I dont have that file anywhere on my computer...

    Are you signed in as an administrator? Aperture needs admin permissions to write to the system library. Check if anything in this support article does help: Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers

    Yes, I am signed in as the admin. But when I go to that directory /proapps all i see is "/internal plug-ins"

    Where else have you searched? And how? Sometimes the file will only be written to the /tmp folder after you quit Aperture and log off and on.

     

    To check the /tmp folder open a Terminal window and type

     

    open /tmp

     

    and hit "return". That will open a Finder window in the private system folder, so be careful, not to remove anything.

     

    Do you see the file appear there, after you quit Aperture?

    Deleting ProAppsSystemID in the tmp folder don't work for me, but move it to /Library/Application Support/ProApps does.

    Same for me. Have admin permissions but no such file anywhere.

    Moving the ProAppsSystemID from /tmp to /Library/Application Support/ProApps fixed this for me as well. Using Aperture 3.4.5 and OSX 10.8.4.
