I've looked at those artciles before, but I'm having a hard time doing anything because checking to see that my software is up to date requires some sort of internet connection (which I am without) and using the network diagnositc help requires internet as well.I've tried powering off and on my wi fi box and I've been desparately looking for anything on the web that might give me a clue as to what to do. I moved to Istanbul, Turkey a month ago and I'm not even sure where to take my laptop if I can't solve this problem at home!
I don't know if this information helps but I'm running Mac OS X version 10.6.8 and my processor is 2.66 GHz intel core i7

try updating to 10.8.4 using Ethernet this may fix the issue
