Q: Can't get my Epson Stylus Pro 4000 to print with Mountain Lion

My computer reconigzes the printer but it will not print. The computer will say "sending data" but nothing happens.

    Recommendations:

    1. Contact Epson tech support for assistance.
    2. Be sure you have installed the latest driver for the printer.
    3. Be sure you have configured Print & Scan preferences for the printer.

As the HT4670 article you attached illustrates, it might help diagnose what's going on if once the print job starts, you click on the printer dock icon that appears.  Hopefully maybe you'll see what happens after the "Sending Data" phase ends.

Talk to them again. Epson provides the printer drivers to Apple, so they should be able to fix your problem.

Espon and I spent an hour installing drivers and nothing works. The computer and the printer are communicating but it just won't print.

Do you happen to have an iPhone or an iPad?  If so, try this:

Download the (free) Epson iPrint app on your iPhone or iPad.  Open it, and click "Maintenance" in the lower left.  Then click "Printer Settings".  One of the options you will see if "Firmware Update".  Choose it and see if that helps.

Try Resetting the Printing System. This forces your Mac to re-index which drivers are available (new installs sometimes don't show up). You'll have to re-Add the printer after this.

    Applications

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select

    View Show Log List

from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
