Am I the only one to HATE the new iTunes?!

    Did you de-authorize the 5 that you have authorized already, and then re-authorize the ones you want to? (per the previous post) Previusly you said that you did and that it worked.

     

    If not, how may are currently authorized (read it from the account page)

     

    And are the songs all purchases from the same account or are they from more than one account (select a song, choose get info and check which account is it tied to)

    Hi TuringTest, sorry for the thread hijack but I could not find another way to contact you. I absolutely love your script SortDateAdded, but I'm unable to use it on iTunes 11.0.3.42 due to some sort of error it's throwing after the first track.

     

    Any chance you could update it to work with this version? Really ***** not having it. Thanks in advance!

    Could I have the error message & line number please? I've just tested an album here using iTunes 11.0.4.4 and it worked fine.

    It just *****. For plain old music is OK for everything else is just a pain. The only reason I overpaid for books and video in iTunes was because it was just so easy, but now, I'm considering Amazon. I'm very dissapointed at Apple.

    I agree. I'm very diappointed in the new version. In addition to not having the usual smooth, easy to use interface, it just doesn't work. I noticed that it put a on quite a few of my albums and refused to download them onto my iPod. Now, I'm all in favor of supporting the artists and upholding the copyrights for them, but I OWN the CDs. I imported them into iTunes FROM those CDs with a previous version, but this new version made me re-import those same CDs again. Apparenty it's too stupid to realized that they were properly imported the first time. I've learned my lesson. I WILL NEVER UPDATE iTunes AGAIN AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS!!! Its infuriating!

    I finally got myself downgraded back to 10 with my music working and everything restored back to normal.

     

    I have iTunes DJ back!!!

     

    feels like the upgrade to the 11 version.  what a pile of filth that thing was.

     

    knowing what the future holds i will need to convert all my music and move on to a different player and music store, but for now im glad i can at least hold onto this last good version.

    they might have fixed some tiny issues, yes. but they didn't solve any of my major issues - like bringing back the missing genius sidebar, the missing progress bar in the miniplayer, the missing cover flow, and above all - the multiple windows function so you can organize playlists easily like you are used from folder windows on system level or from other programs.

     

    this paradigm change from desktop users to tiny little touchscreen users is going to be fatal for apple... they will lose all the djs, all the photographers, all the professional users who need the "oldfashioned" keyboard and mouse system. unless they bring out 30" touch screens for professionals and adapt all the programs like adobe creative suite, office etc. to a touch sreen look and feel...

     

    i wonder if anyone could give me a plausible explanation why they got rid of multiple windows and genius sidebar (again!)...?

     

    as i said already several times - i'm a loyal apple user since 1989. i was always a big fan because of the brilliant usability of apple software, combined with a wonderful design and sustainability of hardware and a unbeaten stability of the OS. but as a professional multimedia user i have only been disappointed lately... and i don't see any reason...

    For me personally I have always been a CLI user at heart (first real serious computer I ever used was a VAX 1170 running BSD Unix 4.3 at college and DOS on the PC years before windows became serious) and I've  found the mouse a bit of a stumbling block at times. I've mostly adapted now to apple's style of mutlitasking (and figured out their mission control to switch between windows) and I can see how the design mostly makes sense.

     

    I do share your frustration at the complete lack of genuine thought for usability in the past year or so. Removing sidebars and functionality is bad enough, but here's another example of completely stupid UX design:

     

    I have a playlist folder (many in fact but this one) happens to contain a smart playlist I'm currently playing on my itunes. When I launch the remote control from my ipad at any time, I expect it to ask itunes "hey, what are you doing now?" (like what playlist are you currently playing) and to switch to it automatically. Instead I have to go find that playlist myself. It's good enough to remember that I was on that playlist if I switch to another app and come back, mostly. I can tap home button, do something else, go back, adjust volume, repeat, and that's fine. Then something weird happens like solar flares, aliens invade, a sinkhole forms somewhere on the earth, whatever, and the remote control app has a senior moment and decides it wants to jump to the last top level playlist I had selected on the ipad a week before. This is one of many examples of "let the user figure it out, I don't want to do that any more" they seem to have implemented in itunes 11 and all new devices in the past year.

     

    There is a fundamentally big difference between complex and complicated, and the process of simplification does not always produce something simpler, apple seems to have made it insufferably complicated. Itunes 10, ios 5 and the remote control app meant to run on ios 5 where perhaps the best music management environment apple has ever come up with I've ever used. Sadly, like you, I'm looking at what they did lately and share the same dsappointment.

    I thought I'd done something crazy when 90% of my CD imported music stopped working! I don't even have ha;lf of the CDs any more as I gave them all to charity once they were on my iTunes. I assume the only fix to this is to buy the music again?!

    You're supposed to keep the CDs of music you rip, or delete your ripped copies if you give the CDs away.

     

    Is the media still on your computer, a backup, or a device? Depending on the definition of "stopped working" I can offer potential solutions.

    iTunes has pushed me away from Apple products.  The iTunes store is great - visually striking, pretty easy to buy things.  But man, what good is that if you can't easily view or listen to what you purchase.  I bought an audiobook on my iPad for example because that was what I was using when I was browsing for audio books, and it never even occurred to me that I would not be able to just listen to it from my iPod by logging in, going to my itunes account and downloading it, or better yet streaming it.  I mean, most everything else, that's how it works, right?  Not so with iTunes and there's something about transferring a purchase to another device which you then have to sync to or something.  Of course in trying to do that, it tries to preconfigure settings for you and all of a sudden it was copying everything to the iPod.  As for the tunes, I started the whole music in the cloud experience with the assumption that Apple would be the best.  I mean, they are a mature company and are legendary in reputation for having superior OSs which are supposed to be intuitive.  I thought it would be great.  I was excited.  So I tried the iMatch service and holy cow what a chore that was.  Many files it could not load without any kind of explanation of why not, and the artwork matching was just bad - much art was completely wrong or had no artwork at all.  But the biggest problem is just trying to figure out how to get just the files you want on a device.  The whole synching process is bad and completely unintuitive.  And the interface was not great in my opinion either. 

     

    Long story short, I just bought the Amazon cloud music option for 24.99 and what a difference.  Download the app, have it scan all your files, and boom, you're in business. At that point, immediately, all of your devices can access it.  It's good looking, and best of all intuitive.  Within 5 minutes I checked out the app on my iPad and was able to easily view what I had and either stream or download them to my device.  They even have menu text that says "download" so you don't have to guess what the tiny icons mean and what they do.  It's like Amazon took user feedback and incorporated it.  Or, they thought about how maybe they liked to listen to music ... and wrote software to make it like that.  It's all very radical.   Long story short, I really wanted to like Apple.  I used to own an early Mac Plus and loved it.  Had Apple supported gaming I probably never would have left.  But they didn't, and here I am back again, frustrated again.  Leaving again.  At this point I will really think hard about buying another Apple anything.  Which is a shame because they are quality products.  I for sure will never buy actual music from Apple again because who knows how difficult they will make it to listen to and if I buy it on Amazon I will not have to transfer purchases to another device or sync this and that, it will all be in the cloud and accessible immediately, which is all I ever wanted.

     

    So yes, long story short, I do hate iTunes too.

    I still hate iTunes after the update to 11 and now at 11.4.

     

    My daughter accidentally updated my Mac iTunes to 11 and I forgot how cripplingly awful it was.  I wasted another hour getting my system back to version 10 (again).  Even though I tick the box to say don't remind me again about the new version, it still continues to do so.  So that part doesn't work either.

     

    iTune 10 works just fine for me to manage my large music collection but that is all I use it for now.  I don't bother with iTunes as a way to buy music anymore.

     

    Come on Apple, get your old act together.
