I have a black MacBook (10.7.) where the track pad button is always stuck on. Interestingly, in Sytem Preferences (trackpad), the 'clicking' box is unchecked. I can't recheck the box because.....the clicking box is unchecked. When trying to boot from a Lion DVD, and even the original Tiger DVD (with the 'c' key depressed, the optical drive spits out the DVDs after a few seconds. So....is this a hardware issue (trackpad), or a software/firmware issue? I noticed that Apple had a few Security updates yesterday 7/2/13, which were apparently installed. The Macbook EFI Firmware version is 1.1. Thanks - DV

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions,

Take the battery out of the macbook and run it on mains power only.

If the track pad now works it means your battery has swollen and is pushing up and stopping the track pad from working correctly.

    Answer buy a new battery.

    Hope this helps,

    Alan
