Make sure that you are connected to the internet then tap settings>general>about . If there is an update available a prompt should appear there.

    Hope this helps!

The OP is talking about carrier settings, and not iOS updates, which is what you are talking about and has nothing to do with the problem.

Most of the time the carrier settings are pushed by the carrier automatically. Contact Verizon for help as this is a carrier issue and not an iPhone issue.

You can check for carrier settings there as well...

    According to Apple article HT1970-

Carrier settings updates are small files that can include updates from Apple and your carrier to carrier-related settings, such as network, calling, cellular data, messaging, personal hotspot, and voicemail settings. You may receive notifications from time to time to install new carrier-settings updates.

Follow these instructions to update your carrier settings:

    1. Make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
    2. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.

Note: Occasionally a carrier may release a mandatory update. This type of update will display only an OK button instead of an Update button, to let you know that the update was downloaded and installed.

If you need to know the version of the carrier settings your device has, tap Settings > General > About and look next to "Carrier".

    Additional Information

Note: If you insert a new SIM or micro-SIM card into your iPhone or iPad, you'll need to download the carrier settings for the new carrier wirelessly. Carrier settings are available only for iPhone support carriers and iPad partner carriers. If you're not using a partner carrier, you will need to set up the carrier's settings manually. Refer to your carrier for appropriate settings.

      Thanks!!!
