YouTube Doesn't Work after Apple TV update June 2013

I thought I'd document this. Recently I had an Apple TV update. Before that I had been forced to use a YouTube account for which I had a userID rather than an email address because AppleTV wouldn't recognize the email address. After the update, I was still logged into YouTube but nothing worked. I eventually logged out of youtube and I then logged into the same account but this time using the email address associated with the userid (which YouTube no longer supports). That worked.


So the solution for me was to log out and remove my account from YouTube in the Apple TV, and then select a new account, enter my email address for that same youtube account and the password and voila, I was back. I'm guessing AppleTV finally conformed with Google's email address only policy and didn't actually tell anybody.

    Had the same issue. Thanks for posting. Spent about an hour trying to figure it out, read this post and realized where the problem was. I also think the switch occured July 1st. I had been holding out not wanting to switch my youtube from a user name to an email. It doesn't help the the ATV sign in screen still includes "username" as an option.


    Lastly, don' t forget, as I always do to regenerate your application specific Google password if you are using Google 2-Step Verification.

    Thanks for your reply. Which Aiport did you upgrade to - the 802.11 AC that was just released? What were you using before?


    Why do you think that made an improvement to your apple TV?
