I am a first time Apple iphone user. I purchased an iPhone 5 in November and today I noticed after charging for a hour that it read 1% on the display. Went to the Apple Store and they told me nothing wrong with the phone or charger. Both worked in the store. Got home nothing works again. Bought a new lightening cable and still no change. Walked back to the Apple Store with my cables and was told it was my outlet.I tried multiple outlets in my home with no result. Perhaps its the phone and perhaps its the cable. Not sure but I went back to my Android until I can get it fixed. Any ideas????? Thanks

Hey everybody I plugged my iPhone5 in to charge overnight last night and this morning it hadn't charged at all. I tried it on a different socket, on my PC, on my Mac, nothing. It didn't even register it being plugged in.

On closer inspection, I saw some white stuff in the socket on the actual phone. I (carefully) used an unfolded paper clip to dig out a bunch of compacted trouser-pocket dirt and fluff that was actually stopping the cord from going in as far as it should. Slightly embarrassing that I'm telling you all about my dirty pockets, but it could be that simple!

The lightning socket is just very bad thinking. In order to charge my iPhone 5 I have to wiggle the plug in the socket, as soon as the iPhone moves the charging stops.

My iPhone is also my alarm clock and off course when the battery is empty, the alarm won't ring. Already several nights I woke up with just 10% left.

I use Apple products for almost a decade and never had any problems. But this iPhone 5 issue is really disappointing to me and nowhere to complain.

This iPhone costed my 400 euros separated from the costs of t-mobile. I think we could suspect a little quality !!

I am a recent Mac convert (from being an avid PC guy).  I moved to Apple with the expectation of getting high quality devices.  Instead, my iphone wont charge and my Retina MacBook Pro has ghosting (temporary burning) and a faulty HDMI jack.  For the same ~$3000 I have spent on Apple I could have had a reliable Android and kick@$$ PC laptop, and enough left over to have an Android tablet and backup laptop.

In short, there is absolutely no reason for Apple to use anything other than tried-and-true Micro USB like the rest of the world.  I don't care about the half billion Apple makes on chargers every year... they could make up that difference in other more customer-friendly ways.

All of a sudden this week my cord wont charge my iphone 5. I blamed it on the cord since i had a knock off version that i use in the office. I noticed when i used this cable in the car charger while using my navigation. But when i got home the cord would not work on the wall. I purchased a new apple lighting cord 19.00 and when I hook it up to the wall ot home/office computer it is sensitive to movement. if i move the phone the charge will stop and I have to manuever the phone to get the charge going again. In addition now the phone wont charge in the car adapter.

things were working just fine and all of a sudden this week this stated happening. I dont know if this is glitch in the phone or the latest update...............

    can anyboby help?

Yours sounds like the same issue I had where I was using 3rd party and Apple cables and all the sudden they stopped working and/or became intermittent... even the Apple charger.  If you go into the iMSoCool store, they will replace the phone so long as you can reproduce the error in the store.  I only use overpriced proprietary Apple cables now with no problem... they win.

Also, it might be of some interest to others that the Apple chargers are very likely proprietary: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2208298/iPhone-5-Apple-adds-authe ntication-chip-charger-cable-stop-parties-making-cheaper-versions.html

Well, I am on vacation and my phone has stopped charging.  I am on my second iPhone (due to charging issues), I have only used iCostSoMuch chargers with my new phone, and now my phone won't charge... again.  I had it plugged into my car most of the day yesterday as we were driving.  We were listening to Spotify and using Google Maps all day... assuming that my phone was charging.  By the time evening rolled around, my phone was dead.  We checked into our hotel and I plugged it into the wall.  About 5 minutes later my phone came on... phew (I thought).  I went to bed and woke up to a dead phone.  I have now plugged it into my laptop, which seems to be working... however I will be switching back to Android as soon as I return to civilization.  I cannot describe how disappointed this whole experience with Apple has been.  I am a fairly simple person who prefers to pay extra for products which work.  My switch to Apple has been nothing but a let down.

I am having the same problem.  My new iPhone 5 took one charge last night and now today the phone will not charge using multiple outlets plugs and won't charge connected to my Mac.  Very frustrating that I now have to go to Apple to have this taken care off.

Did 3 hard resets which did not solve the problem so I am not sure why others are saying this is a solution but it is not working in my case.  Not likeing the lightning cable for another reason now.

I was able to borrow a cable from someone and I can charge my phone so this was an issue of a cable gone bad.

Ive had my Iphone 5 since late March. It just now stopped working last night. My phone died, and it starts charging, but cant continue charging for more than 2 seconds. Im wondering if there's something wrong with my charger, or my phone. Ive cleaned out the charging port, and everything. Are there any fixes before I buy a new charger,or get a replacement phone?

Same problem. For days my iPhone 5 would not charge properly. I would have to wiggle the lightning cable to make it work at all. Turns out it was pocket lint in the lightning port. I simply used a toothpick to gently scrape the stuff out. I was surprised to see how much was actually in there. iPhone is charging perfectly now. Might wanna check it out yourself.

I had trouble charging my iPhone 5 after I had it for a while, it's possible some of you had the same problem I did. I thought there was something wrong with the cable at first, it would randomly connect and then immediately disconnect and then connect again etc. at a rate of about 4 or 5 connections or disconnections per second. This was obviously very annoying and it didn't charge very fast. Anyway, I was going to take it into an Apple store, but I remembered when my iPhone 3GS had similar issues with the 3.5 mm headphone jack, and that turned out to be just lint in the port. Sure enough, I stuck my knife down into the lighting port and emptied out quite a bit of lint. Charges just fine now, as you would expect. This obviously won't be a problem if you have a case that covers up the port when you're not using it, or if you don't carry the phone around in your pocket, but you might try (carefully) putting a thin blade down there and digging around, or blowing canned air, etc. Hopefully this helps.
