If the iPhone were unlocked, you wouldn't be receiving this error message.

It appears that the phone is still locked to the original carrier. How was the "unlock" accomplished? Did you contact the carrier to unlock the phone or did someone else? Was the phone hacked to unlock it?

The questions asked by Ralph9430 are quite important.  As long as you've followed the steps laid out by the carrier, also remember to perform a DFU restore.

I am trying to change sim card in an unlocked phone but keep getting this message: "the sim card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from carrier that is not supported under the activation policy"..what do i do?

I have this question too. I live in Australia, I bought the phone new and didn't lock into any contracts. WHen I bought a new phone (iPhone 5s I gave the old phone 4s to my grand-daughter I restored it before I gave it to her. I have contacted both companies I used when I owned the phone but both say it is nothing to do with them. I was sent a docuent on restoring the phone to facory settings but when I connect the phone I get this message:

"The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.

The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information."

    Please help?

Look, if you had bothered to read the replies to the Original Poster, then you would know what you have to do, rather than jumping into a thread.

If the phone is locked to the carrier then you need to find out who the carrier of the phone is and you then need to buy a sim card from that carrier and insert it into the phone and it will work.

If you want to get the phone unlocked, then you need to go to that carrier and put in an unlock request so that the phone will remain unlocked.

Find out who the carrier of the phone is and then buy a sim card from that carrier or put in an unlock request to them.

This is about as easy as it gets!
