Q: I've got a 2006 iMac with an OS 10.3 operating system, and I'm told by people at my Apple Store that they cannot "migrate" my essential data to a new iMac because an OS 10.5 or higher is required.  I would appreciate suggestions for an alternate way.

2006 iMac with an OS 10.3

I do not think that the iMac in 2006 came with 10.3.

Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:

Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.

    click on this icon

Click on the first line, "About This Mac"

Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.

What version & Processor do you have?

I would try migration assistant and see if it works.
