It's painfully obvious to me that if Apple don't put the multiple window functionality back in iTunes then they obviously don't care what their user base wants. everyone missis this feature! With all the requests for this feature they must return it to iTunes! If you Google "iTunes S**k*s" you get more hits then I would like to see for any utility/app that I bother to keep on my PC. I had been considering buying an Apple PC but this is a serious concern, I will now have to wait and see how this turns out.

If iTunes is no longer to be used as an application to manage Music or other Digital media, then simplifying it makes sense.  Unfortunately I don't think that is the direction.  I have not heard of a Pro version of iTunes.  With around 20 years of CDs Ripped into Itunes and new media all the time, I have built numerous playlists and use iTunes to manage it all.  As a user of a Multi-Monitor MacPro setup, I now find the lack of opening up my playlist windows to review, update and manage the playlists a tremendous reduction in functionality for iTunes.  Each time I want to look at somethign I lose where I was and have to re-search and remember.  Just Silly.

Also, why does inserting a CD reset my search criteria under "Music" erasing my entry. Very Frustrating.

Apple, please restore the ability to open windows for playlists, and other library/device/store menu items.  Not all of us are running 11" Air laptops.  I paid a lot for my 30" displays and woud really like to use them again.

Go put give Apple the feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

Yes it is silly. They ruined a great app. I blew away iTunes 11 and reinstalled 10.7 to get the music management functionality back. iTunes 11 did nothing for me personally.

    John,

I appreciate your eloquence in describing a problem that I keeping hoping will be fixed. It has taken all the usefulness out of iTunes and made it a copious, infuriating program to use. My answer is Not to use it which frustrates me all the more.

I tried to reset back to 10.7 but was unable to remove 11 as it is tied into the system software now. More frustration.

Hopefully this thread and other noise in other forums is becoming noticed and in time will be heard and the problem resolved.

I have always stood by Apple as creating things that are mostly intuitive. iTunes 11 is not stepping forward nor intuitive. It is only infuriating.

You can uninstall iTunes 11 and reinstall iTunes 10.7. The method described by Dan Rolnick in the link below works. And whenever you get system software updates you can choose not to install iTunes 11.

Here's the link. I did it and it's pretty straight forward.

Getting back iTunes 10.7 was a great day for me in 2013. It doesn't really take that long to do.

Does anyone who has tried the dev version of Mavericks know, does installation of Mavericks force you to iTunes 11?

    Thanks.

Now that Mavericks is out, does it force us to use iTunes 11 loosing our capability to have

    multiple windows open ?

Needing that feature, I have to stay with iTunes 10.7 and cannot use IOS 7 on my iPhone 5 and my iPad because it needs iTunes 11 and now I'm afraid to update my Macbooks to Mavericks. For a three decade dedicated apple user this is a sad affair.

Yes, and as I just discovered, it CAN'T be run in 32 bit mode anymore. That means I just lost two of my favorite visualizers.

Yet one more voice calling out into the vacuum- please, if nothing else, restore the ability to open multiple windows in iTunes, no need to rehash reasons why, but I will say it has reduced the usefulness of iTunes by 75% for me. Only keeping so I can keep phone on iOS 7, but if that doesn’t improve either, going back to 6 and iTunes 10.

Yes. ITunes without multiple windows is a real loser for me too. As a musician, it's a drag trying to manage multiple set lists without multiple windows. It's a ridiculous shortcoming of the software. And I don't understand Apple's reluctance to restore it.

I'm with you on that.  This is a very disappointing feature removal from iTunes.

I want to cry when I think about how incredibly difficult Apple is now making it for people to truly upgrade and force us to accept mediocrity. I fking love Apple products but feel like with Steve's departure, the belt wielding step father has now assumed authority. Why be so danm difficult!? Mavericks = iTunes 11 = iOS 7.... WHY?!

I guess I'm going to continue to live in the past. The lack of functionality and backwards compatability means I'm gonna be living in the Mountain Lion = iTunes 10.7 = iOS 6 era of software for the foreseable future.

I've been waiting for Apple to fix iTunes for a year, and it looks like that's never going to happen. Sweet.

I too am sticking with Mac OS 10.8.5, iTunes 10.7. And iOS 6.1.3 for a while. My mid 2010 iMac does everything I want it to, and I don't want to upgrade my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to iOS 7 because of all the issues posted. It seems like a crap shoot if those two would perform well. Some people have had success, but many more ended up with bad performance on the older iOS devices. Heck, they do all I need right now. Maybe if I start to see some must-have features and software that requires the newer OSes, I'll bite the bullet and upgrade.

My wife got a new iPhone 5s and really likes it. she's pretty techie.
