MAC Mail not saving all sent items

    I found a very easy way!

     

    Copy all your sent items from Yahoo to this folder!  It will sync to the server.

    I guess you don't understand what we are talking about.

     

    Sent messeges are deleted (or just not saved/created) on server and client side. So there is nothing you could copy/move.

    Actually to make it become automatic I used Rules from Mail preferences, there you must select your local yahoo mailbox.

     

    let me put it in steps.

     

    1. Select your yahoo sent mailbox (the one that it saved in the computer only)

    2. Go to file, preferences, clcik on rules, add rules. Check the sttings below.

    3. Add your yahoo email in the red box that i censored.

    4. You have to select the "sent" mailbox that is on the yahoo server.

    5. Click ok and comfirm that your are applying the rule to only that yahoo mail box.

    6. Be careful to do this correctly the first time as while i was playing with this setting, i got many duplicate emails in my sent mailbox on yahoomail.com

    oh, the title describes my problem,

     

    my mac mail did not save sent items to yahoo server even if i ticked save sent items on server. Anyways, I found a "fix"

    Thats also not a good solution.

     

    Keep in mind that 1 mail from about 100 mails gets deleted - not all. If all mails would be deleted, it's very easy to fix this.

     

    But we talk about a random mail. So u have duplicated mails in your sent folder (and only no duplicates for the lost mail...).

     

    Sure, using a filter works, but let's save it to a folder like "sent backup".

     

    Mail.app stores the mails by default to "Sent Messages" (could be changed) on the IMAP server. Just like all other IMAP mail clients.

     

    We are talking about a really bad bug inside the Mail.app. Also hard to track - and this is not our work - it's on Apple to work on this bug. But they don't do :-) They say: Try it on a clean system (new installed system without any other software). But this is stupid. Why spending our time? We paid for OSX and those apps.

     

    It's typical Apple. Give to work to others - for 0. It's the same as people pay a lot of money for a PR event(!) called Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Great joke? Thats the truth ;-)

    In Mail, locate the folder that is being used (by your Imap server) for sent mail. Select it, go to the Mailbox menu and choose 'Use This Folder for Sent'

    Maybe... Try to reselect the sent folder: "use folder for sent..."

     

    Mail.app (also on iOS) creates a folder called "Sent Messages"- not just "Sent" like all other mail clients :-)

    I have GIVEN UP with Mac/Apple mail. It's TERRIBLE!!!! Never have I seen such bad email and NO support. Thanks Apple!!

     

    By the way Apple, If you have all my sent emails that NEVER showed up in my sent email folder kindly forward them to me promptly!!

    I see..  i just realised that i could not see some of my sent yahoo mail. However it only appears in my smart mailbox. i configured it to show all messages sent by my yahoo account.

    I too have this problem, getting very annoyed about sending mails twice.. To me this occurs whenever I try to send a mail from icloud to something else. never noticed an icloud to icloud issue...

     

    It's getting there that I do not trust icloud anymore, this issue is long around and should be fixed allready. My quickfix is allways sending a copy to myself, the next quickfix will be a different mailclient, and provider for that matter as the me.com will probably dissapear soon. My @gmail is around for ages and probably will for a long time...

    I've been doing a ton of research on this particular issue lately and here's the real deal:

     

    Mail.app does indeed work fine for millions of people who use POP, Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo.  It also doesn't work correctly for the millions who use IMAP on most commercial mail hosts.

     

    For the latter, the root cause appears to be the result of mail.app opening too many connections to the mailserver in a short period of time, OR, the mailserver is experiencing a period of heavy traffic and is basically saturated.  When either occurs, the mailserver has to reduce load by refusing connections.

     

    The problem is that mail.app will not attempt to write or sync messages to the server if it encounters a refused connection.  It basically says, OK - you don't want this message now... I'll just give up then (and the message is lost forever).  Other mail clients will cache the message and keep trying if they encoiunter the closed door.  This goes for sent, trash, drafts and junk (if set to be stored on the server) - most people just notice sent messages not saving because these are the ones we typically need to reference.

     

    That said, the situation can be somewhat improved by limiting mail.app's chattiness, though not a complete fix because a saturated server will still need to refuse connections.  To reduce mail.app's traffic footprint, set the Check frequency to a longer interval, and disable 'Use IDLE if the server supports it.'  Contrary to another poster's remarks, IDLE affects the syncing of every mailbox, not just incoming mail.

     

    Another action worth considering is to politely ask your mail host to move your account(s) to an alternate server that has fewer accounts or less average load - many will.  But until Apple adds the ability to cache and re-try syncs when encountering a closed connection, those of us affected will continue to lose messages occaisionally.

     

    Keep in mind the above is for syncing messages only - if a message that is being sent encounters a closed connection, mail.app does handle that situation properly (creates a temporary Outbox to store the message while it re-tries to send).

    Yes and no.

     

    My own mail server has enough free resources and none of my connections have been refused ever, load was not the problem.

    How far away is your server located Xairoo?  Mail.app's sync attempts appear to time-out at 35ms (log entries actually show 34) - network latency could conceivably last longer than that and trigger the same result.

    35 ms? Think about a wireless connection on your mobile, thats much more than 35 ms (also 0 problems if i use my mobile as a hotspot + macbook). Or did u mean 35 seconds?
