Not yet Andy. I would have to send it in by post as unfortunately as big as Dublin city is, we have no genius store in ireland, and at the moment i just cant be without my laptop.

Apple only advised to restore the laptop, which obviously didnt help.

Once i get a replacment laptop i will send it in and see what happens.

    Regards,

    I understand the frustration.

I was lucky because I didn't need my computer for a week when I took it in and I live a few minutes drive from several Apple Stores.

Apple has wonderful customer support...when you can get to it. They completely replaced one of my prior macbooks after trying to repair it twice.

This definitely helped a lot, and the external monitor image is much much sharper as well.

also repair disk permissions with the disk utility, and reset your P ram.

I also had the same issue. I searched high and low to find the sollution, and i thought maybe i could be a hardware problem.. but then i ran Color Sync with the tool "verify".. And it found 2 software problems..

    /System/Library/CoreServices/Resources/Profiles/HD 709-A.icc

Header message digest (MD5) is missing.

The file is locked. Could not be fixed.

    /System/Library/CoreServices/Resources/Profiles/SD 170M-A.icc

Header message digest (MD5) is missing.

The file is locked. Could not be fixed.

This problem cannot be fixed unless you change the files rights and sharing.

If you locate those icc-files, right click on them, and choose "show info" you can change the rights on the specified files. Change them all to "read and write". Do this on both files. Then run "Repair" in Color Sync.

This fixed the problem for me (no flickering for 30 minutes, before i did this the screen flickered every 2 minutes)..

Remember to change back to "read only" in both files..

Hope this will fix your issue!

The screen flickering issue has been driving me nuts for a few months now. I was about to take in my MBP to the Apple Store for a second time. The last time I took it in the flickering didn't happen at the store, but I had a video. I didn't want to lose my MBP for a week plus, so I've been delaying the repair the Apple Store people suggested.

As I was preparing to take my MBP into the store, I took it off a clear acrylic stand that I use on my standing desk and the flickering dissappeared! Then I simply placed a magazine between the plastic stand and my MBP and the flickering issue is gone. So, I think you are correct with your static electricity theory.

    Hi All,

My Macbook Retina just came back yesterday, they took about four weeks to get this done.

They changed the screen from LG to Samsung, the screen is a little different compare to the original one, it has a layer of ruber between the glass and the metal. (Not sure if this applies to everybody, feedback anyone?)

You can see below, the outmost is the extra cover I bought to protect the notebook, second is aluminium, third is the extra ruber layer, then finally the glass.

So far so good, and no flickering and ghosting till now . Though I have to say that I am a bit disappointed with this problem, I can only hope that Apple will do better next time, because although I like Apple, but I don't think I could give them many more passes before I label it as an expensive but mediocre quality brand.

Good luck to you guys that have a same problem here, hope you can get the problem fixed soon.

    Kind Regards

    Andy

My Mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro screen started intermitantly flickering a few days ago also.  I noticed it occured quite a bit while outside in the 80 degree F summer heat... Wondering if heat is an issue at all.  I guess I'll buy Apple Care in case it is pending hardware failure.

    History:

I've had this issue. Went to the apple store to get it fixed.

First time: Advised to re-install the OS. Didn't fix it.

Second time: Logic board replcaed, didn't fix it.

Third time: Screen replaced, fixed it for a while, but I just noticed a flickr right now as I type this post. The screen was replaced as a Samsumg display.

I took mine to the Apple Store in Miami.  They kept for a week "in cue" to be examined, but could not duplicate the problem.... despite showing them a 3 minute long video of it flickering.  I refused to take it back.  They then kept it another week and replaced the "clam shell" that included a new screen and screen cables with a Samsung screen ( LSN154YL01001 )... The good screen.  Took a lot longer that I wanted, but am happy with the end result.  I purchased Apple Care ust in case the problem returns.

This does seem to influence the flicker. With WiFi off I have not seen flickering, but its hard to leave it off for very long so I can't say for sure that this is the source of the issue.

I just bought a new macbook pro. Horizontal flickering lines started to appear. I noticed this happens when the intel integrated graphics Intel HD 4000 is used -- as soon as the nvidia is used the flicker dissapears. Is this a hardware or a software issue. For me, the color profiles fix did not work.

    Hi All,

Here's some interesting info on the subject. It seems switching between the Intel graphics card and NVidia graphics card causes flickering.

You can download a very nice tool that shows you when its migrating between video cards and it shows what applications are trying to use what.  Might be useful in diagnosing.

Seems apple would have weighed in on this by now.

    http://gfx.io/

Also, it appears that Chrome is having issues with Apple's video card switching. (well, possibly..)

I went in to the apple store. I had a bigger issue with my comp crashing every 5 seconds... but I mentioned the screen flicker and the in-store peeps suggested logic board replacement to fix both.

However, I received my comp with a new screen, new logic board, and new keyboard/battery... I basically have a new comp except for the bottom piece of metal, but NO FLICKERING!

I haven't had a single flicker since it's been returned, but i can't say which one of these replacements fixed the problem...

    Good luck everyone

Update.... Went to the repair shop -- they suggested the replacement of the logic board and told me that it is probably a faulty Intel HD 4000 card. Since the card is solded onto the board they have to replace it. Beacause this happened after 10 days they should be replacing the computer with a new one. Hope this helps anybody.
