You are not addressing Apple here. We are users like yourself. Go here to provide feedback to Apple. www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

thanks. also thanks for the link.
i was sort of hoping to start a little mini revolution where everyone that feels the same posts to the www.apple.com/feedback section and maybe some developers decide that now is a good time to address this.
am i missing something or is there no section for mac mail in the feedback forum? this seems weird since it is such a ubiquitous piece of software and my tech tells me it takes up 75% of his time on house calls.
anyway, i posted in OSX and in the iCloud section. i wonder if there is a better place to put it on this one. also, do you have any idea when the last time something in Mail was updated/streamlined?

If you are talking about mail on the Mac, I couldn't tell you since I don't use a Mac. As far as the phone, you do have the option to sync the mail settings from the computer via iTunes. This helps you eliminate everything except the entry of the passwords.

help me here please.
you have itunes on your PC and you enter your MAIL settings on the PC and then sync up via iTunes after checking a couple of boxes? and this puts your MAC MAIL mailbox settings on your IPHONE with the only caveat being that you have to enter your passwords in the SETTINGS > MAIL, CONTACTS and CALENDARS?
does this have anything to do with whether i am using IMAP? i mean, presumably you are saying that i can enter my settings on the laptop and check a couple of boxes and it will port all this info to my iPHONE?
i have 90 entries on the iPhone and my domain entries are like twelve digits long. not to mention the UI on the iPhone says that some things are "Optional" even when they are required and they ask for a "Name" when they really need an email address in a couple of cases...

With iTunes on my computer (yes, Windows) and my mail in Outlook. I can select to sync the email account settings to the phone via iTunes. I'm not sure about IMAP or how this would work with mail on the Mac.
