When FCP-7 begins to act in unexpected ways, the first step is to trash your preferences.
Download Preference Manager (free) from Digital Rebellion:
and trash your preferences. They will automatically be restored to default settings the next time you launch FCP.
If this does not solve the problem, post back.

Hey, this project had to be put on hold, and I'm aware that I got help from some great folks out there on this discussion thread. Is it possible to mark them "This helped me" and come back to the conversation later?
Also, once I've marked it helpful, can I mark it "solved" later on once I get back to noodling with the files and settings?

I wouldn't worry too much about assigning "points." Although it's appreciated, it's not a big deal. And you should be able to continue with this thread in the future whether or not it's marked solved or not. We sometimes see threades come back to life a year or two down the road.
