2 4GB RAM modules from Crucial.com should do it.
The machine is almost 5 years old, if the keyboard/trackpad is worn out then it's usually not worth upgrading.
If you have been using a external keyboard and mouse, thus your built in one is still good, then sure you can upgrade the machine.
