What version of iPhoto are you using? Possibly it's an old version that isn't aware of iCloud.

Open System Preferences and take a screenshot, post it here.
Open About This Mac and verify your OSX version (Apple>About This Mac)

thanks Old Toad. this helped with iPhoto. My problem still though is with Mail App still showing MobileMe and not iCloud. When I check System Preferences. Mail is unchecked. I check it and then close System Preferences. I restart Mail App and it still shows MobileMe. When I re-open Sys Preferences, somehow Mail is unchecked again.

Did that numerous times.
When I add a new account with my iCloud sign in, it still changes to MobileMe.

I am having the same issue with my mail account. No matter what I do, the system preference pane for icloud gets unchecked after I add the former mobile me account to Mail via its preference page, or via the system preference pane. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I converted from a mobile me account to icloud in which I use an alias that was first associated with the mobile me account before converting to icloud. I still use the alias as my main email in iCloud and it works fine, as does the "real" email. Confused yet? I know I am, but what I do know is that I am suffering from the disappearing icloud selection problem as described above.

me too- same problem - seems to have a relation to aliases I wonder if you transfered more than 3 (i have 5 under old mobileme rules) it somehow reverts back
