I took my early 2011 MBP i7 in and paid flat rate depot repair for graphic crash, black or gray screen at boot, and failure to boot. The logic board was replaced in April. In May it failed. Apple provided warranty service, and replaced the logic board a second time. Within 2 days of getting it back, I am getting crashes with tripple beeps, failure to boot. Same with different RAM. I can't use the computer more than an hour without it crashing. It takes multiple tries to get it to boot now.

I don't really understand how this problem behaves. After troubleshooting all day, I saved all my data and installed Mavericks Developer Preview 1. I was still having issues so I installed the Developer Preview 2 update and for now my macbook works just fine. I can switch between GPUs gfxCardStatus and no crash, I can load up PhotoBooth and no crash.

It may be too early to tell but think I may have a fix.
I have 17in MBP early 2011, 2.2. Started glitching, freezing etc, got really bad eventually and wasn't booting up. I tried problem-solving everything but no luck, seems to be GPU / logic problem as everybody says. Don't fancy baking it in the oven as apparently you need to do it every few months.
I even had my mac for sale online for parts. Dead loss. Until... somebody suggested that I disable the AMD GPU. You can do this using gfxCardStatus
- Boot up computer (if possible - good luck!). Tip - boot up on battery power as this should make the computer automatically use the internal GPU.
- Quickly install gfxCardStatus before it crashes and burns
- Set graphics card to only use internal GPU, not the higher-powered AMD GPU.
- Make sure gfxCardStatus starts up automatically on boot in preferences.
- Back up your computer if you have not already done so!
Summary: this forces the computer to use the Intel GPU and avoids the AMD GPU. I think the problem may be with AMD GPU.
So far my computer has been on for a few hours which is about 1000% better than it has been doing for a long time. Rendering 1080p video from After Effects no problem so far.
Will update how it goes in a few days.
Side note - let's hope that Mac Pro does not come with GPUs that have an intentional shelf life of 2 years...

Have you had any luck with this yet?
My Macbook died last night and the only thing that keeps it stable is using gfxCardStatus and forcing the Integrated card only. I hope Apple can respond to us all very soon and offer some sort of compensation, it's ridiculous that a 2+ year old, $3000+ MacBook Pro is unusable and requires a $1000 (In Australia) Logic Board replacement.

I've been watching this thread and the related ones avidly - I have an early-2011 15" that's on its third logic board after two back-to-back replacements last month. The newest logic board is still fraught with problems. When the machine does boot successfully, any heavy graphics usage (use of Photo Booth is a pretty repeatable trigger) sends it into a seizure. I'm going to document the behaviors and then take it back to the Genius Bar - the replacement logic board is still under warranty, and I figure that getting them to replace this again and again will either (a) finally get a board that doesn't have the problem (because there are people out there with functional 2011 MBPs) or (b) convince them to do something else for me because this is beyond ridiculous!
In the meantime...
For those who have tried gfxCardStatus - when the discrete GPU is disabled, do you find any functions on the MBP don't work properly (or at all)?
I disabled the kernel extension for the AMD, which seems to do something similar to what gfxCardStatus can do (but more permanently), and now the FaceTime camera is non-functional.
