My settings say view photos up to 18months old. There is no option to go older than this. Where have my photos older than 18months gone?

    That is just a filter in the Recents group on the side bar. All your photos should still be in your iPhoto library look in one of the filters in the Library group on the side bar

    There are a number of ways. Click on the Event icon and go to the View menu.  Select Sort ➙ By Date3 ➙ Descending.  The latest events will be at the top of the window.  Scroll down till to get to the date you're looking for.

     

    Or use the Search function at the bottom and search by Date:

    You can view photos taken on a specific date, week, month or year.

    It's very powerful.
