Photos transferred over to the iPad from a camera using the connection kit are the full resolution photos taken by the camera. They will also maintain full resolution when copied from the iPad to a computer through USB or using Photo Streams. Only photos synced to the iPad from a computer are optimized or lowered in resolution to save storage space. The iPad will also lower the resolution of photos when you email or send then in messages.
