i went ahead and bought MailSteward and i am trying to archive email from my old Thunderbird accounts.

i've read the documentation and i even sent in a help request about three weeks ago and i got no response.

does anyone know if this software works with anything other than Mbox files or alternatively if i /should/ have Mbox files when i look in my Thunderbird folders? i am seeing msf files for thunderbird and i am only seeing mbox import in MailSteward and methinks this means i bought software i cannot use.

anyone have any ideas? my email (and the contacts in those emails) are so buried i am not sure what to do.

i am considering seeing if i can install thunderbird simply to get back this email information so i would be interested in ideas...

TIA

I don't see anything on the MailSteward site that indicates it supports Thunderbird files:

MailSteward works only with Mac OS X Mail or mbox, so you would need to export the mail from Thunderbird as mbox or move it into OS X Mail before MS could archive it. There's an export to mbox add-on available, apparently:

After reading this, it sounds like the Thunderbird msf files aren't really files.

Unless you need the messages active now, I'd suggest you export them in mbox and import them into MailSteward. That's only two steps, while getting them into Mail is four - export, import into Mail, archive to MS, delete from Mail. You will probably need to get Thunderbird running again; I'm not aware of any way to convert TB files themselves.

do you happen to know if there is a way to get from a TB profile folder to an actual TB working set of mailboxes?

No idea, sorry. I don't use Thunderbird so I don't know all of the ramifications. You may want to take this issue up in Mozilla's forums.

if there were an easy way to get these profile folders into MAC MAIL i would not mind keeping them in the On My Mac side of Mac Mail at least for a time.

The only way I know of is to export as mbox. From there you can decide whether to import them into Mail, MailSteward, or both.
