+1, mine does this too. You're not alone, let's get this known!
Edit: Restarting iTunes seemed to fix it, but it's bound to come back.
Edit 2: Yeah still happening a little bit.

I'm having the same issue. Playing a song in a list of songs at its end will jump to a song further ahead in the list, not the next one. What gives?
I checked controls and found that "Shuffle" is turned on by default after upgrading to iTunes 11. Turned it off and now I'm good.
But I sure am not impressed by this major interface change. I'd prefer to have version 10 back.

Have you enabled Shuffle by any Chance ??
Shuffle is under Controls - Shuffle
or next to the total playing time for a song in the Now Playing Box at the Top of the screen

I figured out it was actually my D: drive. When I move my laptop the Seagate SMART thing is going off an temporarily disables read access. Not saying it isn'tan issue for others.

I've had itunes for 5 years, and I've never had this skipping problem. But now I upgraded to version 11 (or downgraded) and now my music is skipping for some reason. I tried restarting my computer several times but it doesn't fix anything.
And the sound quality of the music seems to be not as good as it was ???
This post was not much help, but maybe it will bring attention to the problem.....

+1 for me. This is highly annoying. I am connected to a large library of Apple lossless via direct Ethernet to my Macbook. When playing an album normally (no shuffle), iTunes 11 skips songs randomly and proceeds to the next track. There are no 'exclamation mark' missing track icons displayed either. The song simply gets skipped. When I hit Previous and back up to the song, it plays just fine.

After the 11.1.1 upgrade iTunes skips songs after a certain period of time. The skipping moment is different for a bunch of songs, but it's staying the same for each of those songs (one song always skips at 0:34, another one always at 0:05, etc.). When I manually set the "marker" right behind that moment the songs play through to the end. All the files are ok. When I drag them to the desktop and play them in preview or VLC the problem does not occur! There is also no exclamation mark or anything...
Any ideas anbody? I'm really dazed...

Oh yeah, and this is not only happening when iTunes is running in the background! And restarting the iMac or iTunes won't fix it...

For me the problem had something to do with my anti-virus I think. Try disabling background applications that may be spiking your CPU usage. Otherwise I'd do a clean install of iTunes on your Mac, I'm a Windows guy so my Mac OS troubleshooting can only go so far o_o

I too have had the issue of I Tunes 11 skipping I tried many different things to fix it and came up with a fairly easy fix and wanted to share it. When I am multitasking running other applictions with I Tunes it skips heavily. When I just run I Tunes by itself the skipping seems to dissapear. There may be a small remnat left, but it is a lot better than before and I highly doubt Apple is going to notice us and care and fix it for us. Anyway guys try my solution out.
