Q: problems with amd gpu on early 2011 macbook pro

They are very aware about this, and they to stock boards, it took only 3 hours to got mine back,... and 420£.

I'm wondering how likely it would be for Apple to issue a recall like they did for the MBP 2008 versions.

This issue is way more common than it should be, and Apple should really take responsibility for this. They know it's happening, and they shouldn't expect everyone with this issue to pay for a fix out of pocket.

edit:: I called apple about this issue and the technician said that seems to be a known issue, and everyone that's got this problem should post to http://www.apple.com/feedback/. If we can make enough of a stink there, Apple might respond in some way. It's a long shot, but I'm willing to try.

I'm joining this discussion, as I encountered the same problem since yesterday on my own MacBook Pro 17" (Early 2011). At first, I thought it was because of the hot weather… But I see that many users have the same issue. I hope Apple is aware of this.

Identical issue here on early 2011 15" macbook pro, started maybe 2 weeks ago. Only when the amd gpu is being used, not when integrated gpu is.

In Thailand have many same problem and i spend my money around $700 for change the logic board

Not a help but Mac's of the era use a mix between EFI & UEFI (aka EFI2). This gives a lot of problems.

15" Macbook Pro early 2012 with AMD GPU.

Hi, I am from india and have just bought a second hand MBP 17" 3 months back (out of warranty), having the same issues that have been mentioned here about the graphic card. since i bought it second hand  . I thought Apple used to make really good machines but this is a waste of good money.

Same problem for me. Unable to boot my computer (Early-2011 MBP 15" with AMD Radeon 6750M graphics).

I bought it 2 years and 3 months ago. A few months ago I noticed some strange wide blue screens at some time (I had to force the Mac to turn off to solve the problem). Then 1 week ago, I was unable to turn it on without disabling the extensions. So I'm pretty sure this is because of this disfunctional Discrete Graphic Card.
