The upgrade (version) you appear to have received is 10.6.3. (Check it out by looking at 'About this Mac')
You may need to further update it via the update link below; then check out software update to pick up on any recent security updates.
It's a big update, could be 40 minutes or more.

currently, you're running Safari from the Desktop in your wife's user account... look in the main Applications folder, using Finder, instead... & see if there's a copy of Safari there, which may work.
You need to update the OS in any case, to 10.6.8 - either via Software update, or using the combo update at http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
after that, Software Update should show Safari 5.1.9 as available, but if not, it can downloaded here :

1) My mistake...I do have 10.6.8
2) There is no Safari in the Applications folder.
3) I will try your Safari download suggestion from Apple Support site.
I'll let you know. Thank You!

>>1) My mistake...I do have 10.6.8
although the report you posted said
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.3 (10D575)
perhaps you updated after that ? - in which case, the safari download may restore it

>>Should I just reinstall Snow Leopard?
That's probably a good idea - although Console (/Applications/Utilities/) should show some error or message when you attempt to open the dmg.
If not already done - do back up ... at least the user folder(s), just in case things go wrong.

5.1.9 Safari has been a problem for some people. There have been reports suggesting a lack of compatibility with Adobe Reader (check to see if yours is up to date); people have also had trouble with tool bar customisation and plug-ins. May pay you to research a bit before going into the nuisance of re-installing. Thanks for the star,
