I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?

    So here's da deal guys. I lived in Saudi Arabia up until last year which was when I'd bought a bunch of apps from the appstore like garageband, traktor DJ and the like. I'm broke but I'm still proud to say that I paid for those apps. I left Saudi Arabia for good, returned to India, and it took me time to acquire a creditcard and everything here and here I was, about to purchase the minecraft game and that's when I decided I had to change the store to India and put in the new credit card details. Everything went smoothly without any hiccups but when I clicked on the 'purchased' under the features tab at the bottom in itunes, I got the shock of my life. Apparently I havent purchased anything. In their words ' you do not have any purchases available to download '

    You have no idea how disheartening that is for me. I just hope someone at apple see's this and does something to rectify this stupid mistake on their part. I just dont get it how apple can make such stupid mistakes. I've always been an apple fanboy and I have an ipad, and ipod touch and an ipod classic and my next purchase was about to be an iphone but I guess now I really get why ppl want to move away from apple. It would mean a lot to me if someone could help me out. There would be no point in telling me to change country to saudi arabia and enter the old credit card cuz all of that was in the past and I dont think that credit card would even be valid now.

    Help a brother out willya. I'd really really appreciate it

    Haha well do not worry my friend. As you can see, I am the above poster and boy I was devastated when that happened to me. It's perfectly ok though. When I contacted apple, a representative attended to me and told me all my apps and music that I had bought would remain mine. But updating the apps would now be done only via phone/ipad directly. i.e. not via itunes. This is bcuz the itunes store location has changed to another country. But you can still use all your apps as long as you have them on your phone/ipad and you can update ur apps too. And just in case you wanna be sure, backup those particular apps on your computer, only as a safety precaution. And this is what they said to me, but I havent tried it yet. When in a new country's itunes store, if u see a price written on an app you have already purchased in another countrys store, its ok. you can click it and it'll get installed for free as long as u had paid for that very same app. I havent tried this out cuz it's scary but thats what they told me. What I did was backup up my important apps onto the computer and now my ipad is just the way it was before. The apps get updated with no problems at all. But i havent tried restoring my ipad to the factory settings or anything cuz that'd be a stupid thing to do anyway, considering how much of a pain it is to transfer stuff into apple devices. Wish they had a simple drag and drop thing. It would make things so much more easier. Oops I'm rambling Hope i helped you and anyone else who gets into this pickle. so DO NOT WORRY Last time when I checked this thread, not too many ppl gave me convincing replies.     Contact Apple's iTunes Support they'll restore it for you.

    Yeah, as previous post stated, I confirm that even if the app has a price assigned, when you actually purchase it, you re told it is a free update.

    Hi there

     

    I guess the best way to normalise things is by doing this

     

     

    Just visit the apple website

    Then login with your apple id

    Change the country or region there

    As i did changed from INDIA to U.S

    and everything seemed working fine

    As i would like to mention what all issue i was facing earlier

    - sync issue as the us purchased apps were paid in my region hence were not been able to install in my idevice

    - the store i was using was US store hence te id was tagged with not supported region id

    -  i was missing all the free apps in US REGION but as i changed the region information everything started showing up

     

    NOTE: this region changing can also be performed through itunes by viewing id option

    I had this issue too, moving from US to NZ... My solution to this was to simply keep the original account (my wife's) and open a new Apple ID as my own account.

     

    Now I can simply switch from my wife's account (account A) to my own (account B) and back in the itunes login tab (or on the ipad store login) since we maintain accounts, the apps/music etc show up in each account's history, and we purchase new apps in the country (store) we wish to pay for them from.

     

    Although we maintain the US address and Credit Card (account A), we use the local account (B) to buy most things as it where our income is now based, and most people would be fine just switching accounts and leaving their 'old' account as is unless they needed to restore apps?

     

    the light pain of switching stores to update apps is clearly offset by not having to 'cross fingers' every time you "repurchase" an app!

     

    FYI: you're only allowed a maximum of 5 apple accounts on any one device, so unless you move countries five times () you should be fine?

     

    Good luck with iTunes Match accounts though!

    So, what do you mean by the iTunes login tab? On the Mac, I seem to need to log out, then log in but typing in my hard-to-guess password again whenever switching between accounts. Or am I missing some easy way to switch?

    Sorry, been hectically busy this last week!

     

    Yes, I log out and relogin as the other account...

     

    For reference, hard to guess passwords don't need to be hard to enter?

     

    Like:

     

    "I lov3 Apple but I HATE passwords!!"

     

    or

     

    "My eldest son's n4me is Joe Bloggs"

     

    Thus, no-one who didn't know the IDEA behind your password would ever guess it, but so easy for you to type and remember yourself

     

    The key is to just an occasional letter/number substitution and to remember correct punctuation (or invert it!)

    Apple needs to find a solution to this completely unreasonable situation. If I buy a DVD or CD, I can download it, lend it out and carry it will me 'where ever' I go. Digital should be superior, not inferior.

Digital should be superior, not inferior. I should be able to use any credit card from any country also, just as I would for amazon, the the thousand of other 'online' stores. I agree Apple is becoming arrogant.

    and you reporting these purchases to your governemnt and are paying import duties & taxes on those amazon purchases, correct?

    The new iTunes version fixes this problem!

     

    From iTunes I can now update apps bought in other country's stores !!!

     

    Have been waiting for this to be fixed for a long time...

    I have only one Apple account, and moved to a different country with it.  As posted above, I can now update all apps without any hassle straight from the new iTunes.
