Jul 22, 2013 7:05 AM in response to thenk83by devilsdesigner,Yes, I confirm its happens on battery and not with AC adapter. I recently bought new 2013 13" macbook air. No hot corners are activated. It seems like a global issue. Hopefully Apple will roll out an update soon as they did for their volume issue for 2013 Macbook Air 13"

Jul 22, 2013 7:10 AM in response to devilsdesignerby jportnoy,Nope, happens to me on AC all the time. It's only happened once on battery to me. Hot corners enabled, but mouse is nowhere near any corner when it happens.

Jul 22, 2013 7:15 AM in response to jportnoyby stevenh21,I think I've read of two discrete issues going on :
1. Flickering (see Youtube video posted above).
2. Screen goes to sleep (have to login again)
If possible, please indicate which issue you have when posting... I'm a #2 (Sleep).

Jul 22, 2013 8:21 AM in response to jportnoyby gramorris,#2 here. Also noticed this morning that my USB ports go to sleep before the screen does. USB ports non-responsive so I closed the lid, opened it again and I got the black screen with cursor, closed it again and then just black, couldn't bring it back out of sleep so had to force a restart.

Jul 22, 2013 9:56 AM in response to jportnoyby fekkerfc,Is anyone else suffering the Mac Mail hanging issue (needs a force shutdown then restart). I've had this on my original Mid 2013 MBA and on the replacement too.

Jul 24, 2013 8:17 PM in response to jportnoyby mjustinshelton,Mid 2013 13" MBA i7, 8GB, 256GB - I'm having the same problem as so many of you. Some days are fine; other days the screen will go black and log out once, twice, five times in a day.
I can't think of a scenario that this hasn't happened in: running on battery power, plugged into AC, sitting on a desk, picking up the computer, running several programs, no programs running, starting up the computer in the morning, in the middle of typing an email after using it all day. Very frustraiting.
Maybe I missed it in these 7 pages of posts, but has anyone's issue been resolved by phone support, genius bar, or having their MBA replaced??? I don't want to waste time trying to fix the problem if there currently isn't a solution available. (But don't worry, I'll call Apple and add my name to the list, every complaint gets us closer to resolving this issue).

Jul 25, 2013 6:09 AM in response to mjustinsheltonby jportnoy,Alright, sorry for the delay in the update but I've been out of town. I got my replacement MBA from Apple (13" i5, 8GB, 256GB) and haven't had the screen blackout issues..... yet. I got it about a week ago, but have been out of town (without the laptop) for about 5 days of that week.
I want to preface this though, and say that I did install the update that fixes the Photoshop flickering issue, which may or may not have fixed the screen blackout issue. Stay tuned...

Jul 25, 2013 6:47 AM in response to jportnoyby gtownblast,I did a SMC reset on my machine, still having the issues. I am also trying to pinpoint in console when it happens but I don't see anything to help Apple engineering. Does anyone have any ideas on how to log this issue?
really annoying!!! especially while doing presentations for customers.
One piece of infomration is I updated from an earlier 2011 MBA, using the migration tool from a backup time machine hard drive to the new MBA. All other hardware is exactly the same (thunderbolt display, keyboard, mouse, and all accessories) I kind of wonder if anyone else did a system migration, maybe something incompatible got transfered to the new machine that needs to be trashed and reset?
(not that this should/would make a difference: but I had to put a magsafe adapter on the charger on the thunderbolt display for power... but other than than everything is EXACTLY the same)

Jul 25, 2013 6:51 AM in response to gtownblastby jportnoy,No use of the Migration Assistant here; I setup my MBA as a completely new system. No external displays either.

Jul 25, 2013 6:57 AM in response to jportnoyby stevenh21,(#2) I was beginning to hope that after my software update and SMC reset the issue had resolved itself.. as it hadn't happened for a while.. unfortunately, happened again last night when I went to move my laptop and it was running on battery power.

Jul 25, 2013 6:59 AM in response to jportnoyby gtownblast,Has anyone from Apple responded with any advice/instructions. I think there are quite a few people on the thread now willing to help test this issue.

Jul 25, 2013 8:27 AM in response to gtownblastby dms18,Yes, I did use a Time Machine backup to migrate from an 2009 MBA and continue to have the black screen issues. I do run Chrome a lot, as well as primarily use my machine on battery, but this has happened while plugged in as well.
