I'm having the same problem with Macbook Pro Retina OS 10.8. I'm finding questions about the problem but no solutions. Why is it going to iCloud account and not downloading to desktop?

Same problem here. I went to download an itunes sleep timer widget, and it redirects me straight to icloud. Please fix Apple, i'd rather not download third party stuff, but I'm kinda left with no other option until this is taken care of.

This is because the widgets in question were hosted on the web.me.com server, part of the now defunct MobileMe service. This server not longer functions, and any requests to any part of MobileMe are redirected to its (partial) successor, iCloud.
These widgets will not be available until their authors host them on a functioning server.
