Q: Help conforming 29.97 to 23.98

I have dvx100 footage shot as 23.98 and captured as 29.97. I don't have access to original tapes to recapture. I'm editing in a 1920x1080, 23.98, sq pixel sequence. Can someone please point me in the right direction to correcting the 29.97 footage?

FYI I have access to Twixtor, Cinema Tools and Compressor.

DV runs at 29.97...it doesn't record at 23.98. What it records as is 24p over 29.97.  If you shot in the advanced mode, then it's designed for pulldown to be removed.  For that you use Cinema Tools. There are four pulldown options, you need to test which one of them will do it right.

if it shot normal 24p over 29.97...then it was meant to be played at 29.97, but have the look of 23.98. Removing the pulldown from that might be trickier, as it wasn't designed to be removed.  Again, use all the options in Cinema Tools to try to remove it.  One thing that would help is if you have the clips start on an A frame.  Best one would be where timecode ends in 00, but they are the 00, 04, 08, 12, 16, 20, 24 frames...those are the A frames.  This might entail exporting them out as Self contained QT files from FCP...lossless...

Compressor does a great job of pulldown removal and it figures out the cadence.  AfterEffects also does a great job.
