    Just checking in with the community on this.

     

    I also like RS for language - but their support leaves much to be desired.

     

    I am using RS 4.5.5 on a mid-2011 iMAC with OS/X 10.8.4.

     

    I have no trouble at all using the internal mic and speakers - HOWOVER - I have to be the ONLY user logged in when I use RS.

     

    I just log out the other users, use RS, and then log back in.

     

    Pain, yes. But I like it much better than wearing a headset.

    Matt,

     

       I now have a similiar problem (exactly the same problem really) with RS after upgrading to Mavericks.  Were you ever able to resolve this?  I made it to second level support but they couldn't fix it, thought their drivers might need to be upgraded but did not think it was going to happen. 

     

       Their workaround was to boot off my old mountain lion partition, and run the old system.

    Hello,

     

    I am curious if anyone has been able to get RS to recognize a microphone on an iPad. I just purchased and downloaded RS to my iPad and have not been able to  get any mic recognized on this device

     

    Please let me know if anyone has had similar issues with this or has resolved the mystery

    Hi

    This worked fine for me also - many thanks. However, when I came back to the computer the following day, I once again could not get the microphoe to work. Any help appreciated.

    The fix by questionmarq worked for me but when I returned to the system the next day it was back to not recognising the microphone - frustrating.

    I tested my solution - loging out all users except myself - on MAVERICKS (10.9.1) and it still works just fine for me. As long as I am the only one logged on, the internal mic and speakes work just fine in RS. Cheers. Steve

    Multiple users logged into the computer was causing the problem.  Logged them off and now the microphone works in RS.  Finally!!!!!  Thank you.

    I was having the same problem. I have used Rosetta Stone in the past on a different laptop without a headset; so I knew it could be done with my new one. The Rosetta Stone Online Classroom program would recognize that I had a microphone but would not set it up. The internal mic worked fine in sound recorder and with other programs.  It turned out that the problem was with the web browser itself. If you are using Google Chrome you may need to change your privacy settings. Go to settings --> Advanced Settings --> Privacy --> Media. Scroll down in this menu to find your default settings for camera and microphone. Change them to ask when requested. Relaunch Rosetta Stone. Try to set up your microphone in Rosetta Stone again. When you do; you will be prompted to allow access. Allow. After this, I was able to set up my microphone and utilize it in the lessons. I hope this helps.

     

    P.S. If your microphone does not show up in the list of devices; you will need to change its name to include the word microphone if it does not already.
