Do you have the same problem on other networks? Have you installed this update:

I have only tried it on one other network since the problem started and the problem was exactly the same. I just tried to install that update and it said it is not supported on my system. I assume it must be for a different model?

I was able to get my apartment building to let me install a d-link router and now my problem has stopped. It still bothers me that this was only an issue for macbook. It is obviously undesirable to require certain types of routers to function properly. You obviously do not have that option at a hotel, starbucks, work locations, etc. For now I guess I consider this solved.

My macbook reseller had a d-link router in the store, I tested wifi there for atleast an hour and it didn't cause any problem. At my home, however, it only lasted first 10 minutes and disconnected. I'm thinking of installing a d-link at my home too now. Can you tell me what model of d-link you installed, exactly?
Thanks in advance.

I live in China and I am not sure the model I have is sold outside of China but it is a very cheap one. It is the D-Link DIR 616 wireless n router.
