Q: Print to Win 7 Shared Printer?

I need to print from my Mac to a shared printer on a Win 7 computer on my LAN.  The Mac recognizes the Win computer as a shared device and lists all of the shared folders, but not the printer.  OTOH I can print from other Win computers on the LAN.  When these computers show the Win 7 computer with the printer they show the printer as a shared device.  How can I get the Mac to recognize the printer as a shared device so that I can print to it?

Connect to a printer shared by a Windows computer.

How to manually add a Windows shared printer.

Thanks.  I guess I should have been more specific about the problem.  I can add the printer and print to it.  However, the print job gets stuck in the queue with a 'hold for authentication' message.  If I double-click on the print job I get a login panel.  However, the printer does not require a login, and all of the Win computers on the network can print to it without authentication.

You probably have a print server address string and a separate name for the printer on Windows. You can solve the authentication challenge for print jobs with some modifications. Let's say the printer name on the Windows side is AGGRAVATE.

    smb://username:password@server_ip_address/AGGRAVATE

    or

    smb://username:password@server/AGGRAVATE

Actually, I'm beginning to think the problem is that OS X does not have the option to connect to the print server as a guest.  I have a guest login set up on that computer.  So when I try to connect to it from the finder I have the option of connecting as either a guest or as a registered user, and for shared folders I can connect as a guest.  However, that option is not available for connecting to the printer.

FWIW I proved my theory simply by setting up an id that required a password on the printer server.  So now I can print from the Mac using the new id and password.
