All of a sudden my iPhone 4s won't hold a charge. Without use the entire battery is gone in 4 hours. The phone is one month old and had been working fine until two days ago. I have seen the suggestion to wipe it clean and start over. Is that necessary?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1

A few people have been saying that their iPhone 4S battery dies fairly quickly after charge, a good way to ensure the battery doesn't die as fast is to change the brightness, not enabling as locations finders for apps e.g. iMaps, Facebook, Dominos Pizza etc.. Also maybe change the amount of times Notifications remind you, instead of every 1-2 minutes, maybe once or twice.

Also try wiping your phone, and see if this improve your battery life. If any of the above don't have any affect, I'd consider taking your iPhone 4S over to your nearest Apple store for some further advice or maybe a battery replacement.

Hope all of the above help in some sort of way.

I'm recently noticing something weird about my iPhone battery: when it reaches the last 25% it makes sudden drops! It was 24% then I made a one minute call and as I hund up, it suddenly dropped to 17%. It did the same thing last week and dropped from 22% to 11% just as I unlocked the phone!

I'm using iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1 not jail broken. I always shut the apps after using them andont have anything running in the background. I had the phone since November 2010 and hate to think that the battery is faulty in less than 2 years. Anyone has any explaination???

yes i do, i had the same issue with 5.1.1. their is a glitch with the software. a way to check is:

settings<general<usage< go down the the bottem, if your standby and usage time are the same, u have the glitch.

you will have to restore your iphone and DONT BACK UP! if you do, the glitch will be put back on. set up as new!

I went to apple genuis bar twice with this issue.

    I hope this worked!

    Hi.

I'm facing the same sort of issue

Yesterday when battery drops to 26%, I unlock the phone and suddenly the battery percentage change to 16%.

I checked the usage but usage was same as it was at 26.

Also some times the battery percentage stays on certain number for a long time. Like today it was 71% since 8 hours of standby and 1 hour of usage.

Is this a software glitch or battery issue?

Ok. So of the usage is the same as the standby. The glitch is their. If they are reasonably apart. It might be a battery issue. Hope that helps

Well, Sorry I didnt understood your last post.

I mean Standy and usage remains at same levels. I just unlocked my phone and the battery percentage drops 3 % instantly.

    Usage: 6 hours 21 mins

    Standy : 13 hours 10 mins.

These figures remains same as after the sudden drop.?

Is this a battery issue or should i need to reinstall IOS and set up as new. Thank you!

You could try reinstalling iOS without restoring from a back-up, but I'm curious if that's gonna work, because it looks like a problem in the power management system..
I would prepare yourself for a visit to the local Apple Store, by making an appointment for the Genius Bar.

if you back up and restore, the problem will be put right back on.

Depending on how old your phone is and what you do with it it could mean a new battery or a new phone.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Well, this just started since April. Before I had a wonderful battery life.

I just setup as a new by restoring iOS. Lets see.

    Well,

Here is an update over battery draining

What I notice is as follows

My iphone 4 has iOS 6 installed.

It's battery drain 1% every 3-4 mins over wifi and 3G

If I switch off wifi and cut off cellular service, the phone is in airplane mode. At this point still the battery drains at 3-4 mins.

That's weird. No change in draining whether cellular and wifi is ON or OFF.

    Any suggestions ?

However on standby, it's last more than 1.5 day. No issues of battery drain on standby. Only on usage , it drains 1% 3-4 mins. Looks like my iphone has been programmed to do like this . Lol
