iCloud: Troubleshooting Find My iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac
If you lost it:
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown/shown a s 0ff-line, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order

Jul 25, 2013 8:59 AM in response to Xana Aragãoby Michael Black,Note that the find my iPhone app has nothing to do with enabling a device to actually be tracked. The app is merely for tracking a lost device from another iOS device.
To enable a device to show up in the tracking app or in tracking via iCloud in a web browser, you needed to have an iCloud account setup on the lost device. In that iCloud's account settings is the slider switch to enable "find my iPod", which then makes the iPod trackable.
If you did not have an iCloud account setup on the lost iPod, with that setting active, it will not be trackable at all.
