Hi, I'm trying to send messages to myself to an email and to a phone number using iMessages

 

1) I can't send messages to my Samsung Galaxy S3 number. I added my Galaxy number, including country and area code, to my contact name in the "Contacts" software.

 

When I try to send a message iMessages says "number xyz is not registered with iMessage".

 

Do I have to do something on the Galaxy cell phone?

 

2) I can send messages to my AppleID email but can't send messages to my secondary email (Gmail). I get the same message.

 

My email is Gmail. Do I have to do something on the Gmail account?

 

3) It's not possible to send messages to non Apple phones and non AppleID emails or emails that people didn't "register to be reached at"?

 

4) And is it possible for people to "register to be reached at" if they don't have Apple devices?

 

I'm thinking that iMessages is more an Apple to Apple functionality.

    iMessage only works with Apple devices. iMessage is not SMS or text messaging which all other phone users use. Get a text messaging app for your iOS device.

    Do you recommend any text messaging app to send messages from the computer to emails and phones?

     

    Currently I use WhatsApp but it's only from cell to cell

    WhatsApp is only for cell phones/tablets. Viber works on Macs and cellphones (but not iPads) and these utilities require that both the sender and the recever have them installed.

     

    Try Google Voice or Skype.

    The number 1 is addressed.

     

    I was more concerned with number 2)

    Where is this Google Mail ID added as the secondary email ?

    Is it actually in Messages on the Mac or on another iOS device ?

    Anywhere else will not work.

    True.

    You can't send iMessages to non iOS phones (Although the iPhone/iOS version of Messages will send SMS)

    Emails, Apple or not that have not been registered for iMessages will not get iMessages  (You get the alert)

    You also get the alert if the devices is Off line (no wifi or data connection for an iPhone) there is only one messages for non contactable devices.

    Part of number 1) really.

    The person has to have an iOS device (iPhone iPad or iPod Touch) or a Mac that has the Messages app set up up for iMessage.

     

    As with AIM or Jabber services broadly speaking you cannot connect AIM to Jabber IDs. It is AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber  and iMessages to iMessages.

     

    Having said that there are ways at Google or AIM and at Facebook to Add AIM to Jabber Lists and Google or Facebook (Jabber IDs) to AIM lists but the tend to have to be set on the services web sites rather than in client apps like Messages.

     

    You might want to look at Trillian

    Multi-service multi-platform although I am not sure about Mobile devices.

    It used to be Windows only and the Pro add-on was needed to Video.  Mac was added some time ago but I find the site less forthcoming nowadays about what platforms they do support.

    Hi Ralph. Regarding "item 2)", on my MAC I opened Messages, on the menu I clicked on Messages / Preferences / Accounts. There I added my Gmail under the text "you can be reached..."

     

    But I stll get the message that the Gmail is not added with iMessage.

     

    I don't know what to do.

    I understand that if I send a message from my Mac to my cell phone using Skype it might not arrive depending on the phone, country, settings (i've tried to send messages to some people and many never received). And if it arrives it's charged. Is this correct?

     

    i just wanted to share links and webpages from my Mac to my cell using Messages so I could easily forward it to my groups in WhatsApp or something else. I think I'll share them to my Gmail using Mail, open this email on the cell and from there share to WhatsApp

     

    I'll check Viber and Google Voice.

    They all have limitations, my son travels extensively, we use all combinations of carrier SMS and 3rd part utility. Something always works, not always the same something though.

    HI,

     

    Nothing needs to be done on your Google account.

     

    It should simply be a case of adding the Email you want to use and the iMessages servers accepting that it is a valid email.

     

    I actually added a second email as I had two iPhones  and it tried to add the second iPhone and the Apple ID liked to that to the Messages app on the Mac.

    I found if I removed the Apple ID from the second iPhone the Number was deleted from the Mac version of the app when you removed (deleted) the com.apple.imservice.imessages.plist and restart the app.

    Over time the app has had pop up messages about the second iPhone and it's ID and the email has crept on to the settings.

     

    I have not actually tried to add a second email via the Messages app itself.

    This is partly because there is no easy way to remove emails afterwards without deleting the .plist.

     

    In Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account is the second email ticked as an active item ?

    Has there been any confirmation email to your Google email address ?  (there was not for the way I added my extra email).
