I don't know, I have also seen many posters complaining that they can't insert pictures here, but that's just CF.

Sorry, cwmmjm,  this should have been addressed to you.   Pressed the wrong button

It works occasionally. The insert button often is grayed out even after you've selected the picture. It takes usually 3 tries to finally get it to work. Definitely a bug somewhere.

I find that it always fails on the first attempt of the current session, a second attempt will succeed. This is until you logout and login again, which takes you back to the beginning. I have not needed a 3rd attempt (in fact I have found that if the 2nd attempt fails so will the 3rd and 4th etc)

And then there some days when it just doesn't work at all, but those are not so common.

There is no optical drive on the new Mac Pro... but it does look nice.

My biggest concern was the lack of an optical drive.  A new computer of any description means installing programs, games, dvds cds, and so on.  After a quick check around it seems everything I want, program wise,  is available as a free download simply by using the registrations keys (comes with the cd/dvd) on their sites.  The CDs and DVDs may cause the problems though.  I haven't bought material copies of either in a long time now, I buy everything electronically, which suits me.  No worries of breaking or losing them, and once bought I will always be able to download again if needed.  So, that is great for now but what about the cds ive built up over the years before electronic keys came into being?  I have a lot of them...  I hate to say it but they will go exactly the same way as vinyl and VHS.  I'll be honest now, i'm playing devils advocate a little, being the anal wossit that I am, I put all my cds and dvds onto my old imac years ago and thanks to icloud (and airport) they are safe but im painfully aware that not everyone has done this and for them this matters a lot.

So, my advice, for what its worth (Nothing probably), get with the times.  EVERYTHING you want media wise, books, music, films, magazines are ALL available electronically.  You will never lose, scratch, break, or simply wear them out.  You wont have to dust and clean endless shelves full of them and those "special" items (First editions books and old vinyl for me) can take pride of place and become treasured like they should be.  Many people have said that this move came too soon.  I disagree strongly.  Universities, schools and much business hasn't used cd/dvd medium in an age.  yes you can still buy games in a shop but as soon as yu ahve them installed from disc you have to download the updates anyway so why not just get the latest version at a cheaper price online anyway?  The truth is, there really isnt any need for optical drives anymore and if you think differently you really are not being honest with yourself.

i cannot disagree with anything you said claire. and for most people downloaded media is good enough. however if you want the best quality media you will have to get it on discs. compressed music just doesn't appeal to me.  since this thread has started i have bought two new imacs. both of them 1.25ghz imac g4's and i could not be happier with my purchases. they may be slower on the internet than the newest machines and not play flash videos but they are good enough for me right now. i will always use cd's (yes, i am old) and the slot loading optical drives just seem more reliable to me. and when the internet finally passes these machines on by i may get a cheap chromebook to supplement my g4's. but for now all i need to get is a supply of spare parts. i guess i bought into steve jobs' idea of the digital hub and i see no reason to let go of it. and it's not just the optical drive for me. i have a lot of old programs that won't run on the latest machines and i keep all of my data on firewire 400 hard drives.  i'm really lucky right now, with everyone else wanting portable machines that can sync all these devices together from the cloud it has made the prices on these old imacs really cheap.

I really don’t get it… Just bought a Mac Book Pro 13” cause the iMac didn’t meet my needs. I love my Macs but don’t know where I’m goanna go next… Don’t like where mac’s are going. For me they are not recreational machines they are part of my bussines. The cloud it’s not part of my needs nor they apply quite well on the uploading front (uploading video it’s a never ending nightmare). I swore I would cut off my fingers before using Premier… Guess I’ll have to cut them off!!! It is regrettably good…

Buying old technology in order to have what you should doesn’t make sense. As it doesn’t make sense to say “it’s old timer stuff” to need what every other manufacturer offers on a desktop.

The apple environment is really good but the air is turning thin for me… Sorry but I can’t agree… Jobs please come back!!!! We really need you here!!!

You can buy a new 13" MBP with a Superdrive fitted:

Hi there Csound!!! Well you know the tiny bit difference between  retina  and non retina… I need those differences… I don’t care plugin and unpligin stuff on a portable computer (it’s actually annoying but for the sake of good argumentation) because it’s a portable device. The fact that it’s a little bit more portable makes it a better portable device. The lack of DVD it’s not annoying for me cause I don’t burn DVD on field.

The confusing road ahead in differentiating upgradability from gadgety I don’t like it.

I like improvements as much as anybody. But when you have to work and shovel crap from different companies you begin to think different solutions. Meaning Buy apple and then sonnet for video board to thunderbolt, and the red rocket board, and then asus display for 4K, and then drobo or Pegasus for storage, and then… and then… and then…. Dude where’s my car? (get it?)

I had to think different, I wanted and needed the new iMac badly and had to go for a portable device instead and see what happens next.

The new iMac is great in many aspects just not for me anymore…  Apple is great and the best you can buy today but it’s not going where I want to or better said not doing what I need.

And having my tinyn heart with apple I don’t want it to go like Pan Am or Mercury or Oldsmobile or Hasselblad (my god you’ve seen that??)

    Cheers people!!!

(uploading video it’s a never ending nightmare).

    There is good news coming!

Technology experts are working on a movie storage system where YOU have physical possession of the movie.

This system stores the movie digitally on an optical disk system that will not be dependent upon a congested, complicated, and fragile network.

Because all of the data is stored only a few feet from your television, all the bottlenecks are removed.  Performance and reliability are virtually flawless.

Further, the system will not utilize any form of security codes, authentications, or passwords. Once the optical disc is purchased it can be moved around freely at will, and can even be lent or given to friends and neighbors with zero hassles.   And if you don't like the movie, you can sell it for close to your purchase price!

Well, Apple might think the optical is dead... but others don't. Sony and Pansonic prepare to release an optical drive with between 300 gig and 1.5 tb by early 2015. http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201307/13-0729E/

They have agreed to co-operate on defining a standard. Once there is product it will be worth considering.
