Q: G5 Power Mac will not connect to internet via ethernet, WHY!?

I just recently bought a Power Mac G5 from a employee I work with.

From the looks of it, it is the 2004 model with leopard OS.

It has a dual core, 2.0 with 4 slots for memory if that helps identify anything.

This is my FIRST mac computer of any type.

I thought it would be as easy as "plug and play." I was wrong.

Please help me figure this out, I have a project due in 48 hours!

    Do you need more information?

OK, let's walk through the Assistant.  Very important that you have Automatic for Location, Built-in Ethernet for Show and the TCP/IP tab is selected.  Don't worry that the rest of the stuff is blank at this point.  The system will try all of the possibilities in the Assistant.

Ok, at this point, of course, you wouldn't have anything filled in.  Click the Assist me... button

You get a dialog popping up

    Select Assistant...

    You get this window

Put in some name.  I used home for this example.  Click continue.

You are on Ethernet on your local area network.  Click that radio button, then click continue.

Now click continue there.  You should, luck prevailing, get the following window, which apparently needs another post to show, so I'll continue.

    Finally, this window should show:

When completed and Done is checked, you will come back to the window you started with the location you named and the appropriate stuff filled out.

That is, if everything worked out OK.
