The following article provides the most relevant information to your issue. This can usually be resolved by removing any third-party cases that might be blocking the top microphone:

iPhone 4 or later: Audio issues with speakerphone, FaceTime, video recording, or people hear noise when I call them
iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S
Make sure that nothing is blocking the top microphone (located next to the headset jack).

1. If a protective case is used, try removing iPhone from the case.
2. Try turning iPhone off and then on again.

This option did not work for and would like to book the phone into the Apple shop as it is still under warranty.
