Q: Aperture preferences error

In Aperture, when I go to Aperture >> Preferences the only window that appears is this one:

As a result, I cannot fix an External Editor or do anything else.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this please?

Try the following - as a test: Launch Aperture from a different user account, for example the Guest account. If you see the correct preferences panel there,  go back to your regulare user account and remove the Aperture preferences file com.apple.Aperture.plist from the Preferences folder in your user library.

How to remove the Aperture's user preferences from the User Library as described here:

    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

    Note:

Your User Library is hidden by default in 10.7.5 - to open it in a Finder window use the "Go" menu from the Finder's main menu bar.

    • Quit Aperture, if it is running. Log off and on again.
    • Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
    • In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
    • From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".

Then try to launch Aperture again.

But deleting the "Preferences" file will cause Aperture to forget the preferences settings. Be prepared to have to reset all options you set using the Aperture Preferences panel.

The file that your refer to is not in the Library folder. The closest match is:

    com.apple.RegAperture.plist

    Should I delete that file?

    The closest match is:

    com.apple.RegAperture.plist

    Should I delete that file?

Then you are looking in the System library /Library/Preferences  and not in your hidden User Library ~/Library/Preferences.

Remember, the User Library is hidden from the user by default. You cannot open it from the Finder unless you change the file attributes from the Terminal.

So use the Finder's "Go" menu to reveal the hidden user library, as I described above:

    • from the Finder's main menu bar:   "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the alt/options-key⌥  , until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
    • In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
    • From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".

I thought so but I do not have a drop down menu in that window regardless of the time I hold down the option key.
