Jul 7, 2012 7:53 AM in response to ryantmeaneyby cblair85,Pretty sure everyone in here might be overthinking this. Macbooks generally get hot when they are on a wifi connection because the transmitter emits more heat within a computer. If you try a ethernet connection it generally keeps your computer cooler. Pretty much every laptop on the market will heat up on a wifi connection until they design a better heat dissipation process.

Feb 6, 2013 3:40 PM in response to sigby KevG14,@sig, why remove my post about the obvious fact this is a LAPTOP with the emphasis on LAP????
I never paid several thousand dollars for a laptop that cooks my leg after five minutes. It's going back unless therre's an immediate fix passed on to me.

Feb 6, 2013 3:47 PM in response to KevG14by OGELTHORPE,KevG14, greetings: You will be hard pressed to find in any Apple publications where a MBP is categorized as a 'Laptop'. The term 'Notebook' is used for good reason, to separate it from laptops.
If the heat poses a problem for you, then perhaps you should return the MBP notebook.
Ciao.

Feb 6, 2013 4:04 PM in response to OGELTHORPEby KevG14,I'm a Dr of mediicine and it worries me about the extreme level of heat this item emits. It actually burns on touch. Notebook, laptop, = symantics, the fact is you would use this on your lap and or pick it up after use and risk burns. Mine is going back with a stinking write-up. Thanks for the patronising answer by the way.

Apr 2, 2013 7:00 AM in response to snowboarder4x4by Anirudh swaminathan,i dont think tht its actually working out well for me but yea besides all the rumour ...keeping it on the table wen its hot and on ur lap wen it not ...is the proper way ....or else laptop cooling pad is tht device which will never allow the computer to generate the heat....it ll keep coooling it instantly....!!!!!!!!
even on buyng the laptop cooling pad u ll then difinitely hav to keep it on ur desk or table ......

Apr 30, 2013 6:15 PM in response to ryantmeaneyby Mari Anne Vanella-Hicks,I had the same problem with my 2008 13 inch MacBook Pro. I use all kind of things to keep it clean and tidy but it runs hot as heck, and the smcFanControl noted below really helped. Thanks!
I need to upgrade memory and all that--I already upgraded the OS, and honestly I don't ever remember a Windows laptop lasting this long--it's a good machine.

Jul 28, 2013 7:36 AM in response to ryantmeaneyby pluggedin2,I was having the same problem but can't find the thread now that fixed my problem. Someone told me to go to spotlight and find the activity monitor. Zumocast was running in the background and had my CPU up to 99%. I uninstalled Zumocast and everything's fine now.

Jul 28, 2013 12:42 PM in response to ryantmeaneyby vettezeppelin,Thanks everyone you solved my HotMacBook problem! I went into the Activity Monitor and found that the back up software I used called Carbonite was running at 90-100%..shut that off and the MacBook is nice and cool! I also downloaded SMC FanControl but really don't use it or need it now! Now if I could only get a BigMac from McDonalds drive through that was Hot!!

Aug 30, 2013 10:10 PM in response to ryantmeaneyby PattieLennoah,I get it too, sometimes. Everyone is right though. Don't use it on your legs. I believe that's why Apple doesn't use the term "laptop" and uses "notebook" instead. Trying to get people to stop even thinking that way.
