This is a known issue and there are hundreds of threads on it. The servers are having issues and you can either wait it out or a work around found by Fly150 is for you to go to the purchased tab of the app store, scroll down and you should see all your apps, the ones that need updates will have banners on them and you can download the updates that way.

I will try to make it easy on you. This is what he posted.

This is a problem that many users are experiencing now. Apple is working on the fix for this.

According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.

If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:

    1. Go to App Store

    2. Select Purchased

    3. Select All

    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update

    5. Select update on the Apps

This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this, because you cant fix it. It is a workaround only.

if nothing else works, update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.

This is how apple told me to solve the issue and it worked.

In order to resolve this issue, I would like for you to first follow the below steps to sign out of your account on your iPad:

    1) From the home screen, tap "Settings"

    2) Scroll down to "Store"

    3) Tap on your Apple ID at the bottom of the screen

    4) Now tap "Sign Out"

Once you are fully signed out, please press down on the power button and "slide to power off". Keep your device off for about 30 seconds and turn it back on.
