I'm trying to transfer a subset of my photos from my desktop (iMac) to my laptop (MacBook Air).  I'm running the same versions on both machines (iPhoto '11 - 9.4.3).  I'm able to move the photos through 3 different approaches I've tried, but in all cases I'm losing my metadata (faces, places, comments).  As I spent a fair amount of time updating all the photos on my desktop, I'd love to be able to preserve this data too.

So far I've tried:

1) Using AirDrop.  This was the quickest and easiest way to move the photos, but I lost the metadata.

2) Connecting the two computers using Finder > Go > Connect to Server then Option+Clicking iPhoto on the receiving computer and choosing to connect to the library on the sending computer.  After I do that I can drag and drop the photo to the receiving computer's desktop, but I lose the metadata.  I tried selecting "Import" from within iPhoto, but it just seemed to hang.  With the drag and drop, I got the photos but lost the metadata.

3) Uploading the photos to photostream from the sending computer and then importing them from the photostream on the receiving photos.  Again, I got the photos, but no metadata.

Has anyone managed to do this short of copying the entire library over?  I'm trying to only put a small subset of the best pictures on the laptop rather than the entire library.

I appreciate any wisdom you can provide,
