Jul 29, 2013 11:48 PM in response to branmartinby Courcoul,That means the Install DVD will not be necessary. Now, to get all missing security and performance patches in place. The Mac flavor of Windows Update, if you will.
Start the System Preferences, click on Software Updates and Check Now. If there are any missing updates, a list will appear. Apply all. Restart the Mac when finished. Then run Disk Utilities again and do a Repair Disk Permissions like you did before. With this, you can be assured that all that can be done for the system is complete.
For the apps. If it has Office installed, run any of the components, like Word. In the Help menu item, you'll find Check for Updates. Again, apply any that are missing. Same goes for any other commercial software: check the menus for an Updates item. Last but not least are Flash and Java. Can't go into specifics there cause I don't have a 10.6 system to check the procedures and the Lions do it differently.

Jul 30, 2013 8:26 PM in response to branmartinby branmartin,I also deleted what you told me to delete and nothing happened.....I also looked at the details of the error. It's basically saying that some files have been tampered with and cannot be saved. Which in my knowledge myself or her haven't really tampered with anything.

Where are these errors coming from? What are you doing when the error appears. Does not appear to be coming from software update.
Did you ever do the combo update which was previously suggested on page 1?
Have you contacted your girlfriend on the location of the discs that came with the computer? You are SOL without them. Have you backed up? If not, again you are again SOL.
Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.

Jul 31, 2013 5:58 PM in response to CMCSKby branmartin,These errors are coming from when I download the updates from the system preferences in the check now updates. yes it has updates available and they start to download them. Once it gets to the ending download it pops up saying that they cannot be copied due to tampered files. I click OK and everything goes away.
Yes I have tried the combo update suggested on page 1, however i got the same result as an update error.
I have not contacted my gf since this is something I am doing before she gets back from Mexico on sunday.
Im going to assume I am SOL on this one....

That is very troubling. Since I have no idea what you or your girlfriend have done to these files, your best bet is your "get out of jail wild card"......
take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.
Diagnostic testing is free. You will be able to confirm what is wrong and the techs will be able to tell you what needs to be done to repair & the cost of said repair if you are out of warranty or do not have Apple Care. You may be able to do them yourself which I doubt without the dics that came with the computer.
