Its all in my previous posting in this thread:-

Make a backup of the original file first. do not type the ""

    Open terminal

Type "sudo cp /etc/hosts /etc/hosts.bak" then hit enter. You will need to supply your root password. Your backup file will be named hosts.bak and will be in the same directory as the original.

type "sudo nano /etc/hosts" then hit enter. You may need to supply your root password again.

Note what you see in that file, if its anything different from the entries I posted earlier in the thread then you are going to have to edit the file to remove the extra entries. Use the arrow keys to navigate and the delete key to remove the extra entries. Once you finish editing you need to save the file by pressing and holding ctrl and then x, release those keys, then y to confirm.

If you have any doubts about editing files in terminal, do some research first. I will not be held responsible for any errors you make

However if you do screw up the original file then you can recover the file by typing:-

"sudo cp /etc/hosts.bak /etc/hosts" then enter key. You will need to supply your root password.

I found that even though my hosts file matched with the preferred settings I had to log on with my @me.com and not my .mac.com Apple ID before I could gain access to the Game Center facilities. No re-editing of hosts file or replacement of the same , although that obviously doesn't contradict the validity of the hosts file solution wheresoever applicable.

I've opened my hosts file in my etc folder and there is nothing under the 'fe80::1%lo0     localhost' line. There were a few above but i've commented them out and resaved the file in nano but when I try to connect i'm still getting the same error message? I've read earlier on in this post that you can delete the file altogther and then rename the 'hosts-orig' file to just 'hosts?

Can someone confirm if this actually works because it is doing my head in now. I can't connect to Game Center, iMessage or FaceTime, i'm on a MacBook Pro and just downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

    Any help appreciated,

    Arran

For those who want to keep their custom host files, just make sure you don't have one that has "verisign" in there. If you do, put a # in front to disable it.

    Worked for me.

    Hye guys.

Im not Quite Sure if this help or not.

    1.   i repair disk permission

          Disk utility>Machintosh HD>Repair disk permission

    2.   i Open any games that connect to game center.(game that you download from App Store). make sure to close your GameCentre 1st.

    3.   When you r inside the same, They will ask bout ur Apple id & Password. Fill it up.

    4.   If the log in was successful. close your game, and Try Open up ur GameCenter. Then you should already log into the your GameCenter.

*hope this helps..cause its works for me.

Try updating or restoring (restore if you've backed up your iDevice before the issue emerged).

So the only way to fix the problem with logging into game center is to restore your device because mine is already updated. I don't want to erase everything . I know it will be on my desktop but I want it on my iPad. There is no other fix?

Hey guys this issue happened to me too and it happened before, i signed out the first time from the apple store and stayed without putting any apple id, but i wanted just the game center, i wrote the email and password but they wrote the same thing, could not connect to game center server, then i put to my device an apple id, then i confirmed the email and password in the game center and it worked! I dont know how! Before that i went to settings i dont know what i did, but it worked then i signed out the game center to put another game center and they wrote the same thing and until know, i want a solution.
