Just a heads-up about iFunBox.
Make sure you are downloading the latest version for iFunbox. The latest versions of the application do NOT require your phone to be jailbroken.
I quote myself from an earlier page in this discussion...
"BTW, I have discovered that not all sites providing downloads for iFunBox are providing the most recent version for Macs and PC's. This link will provide the most recent versions:
I believe it is v1.2 for Macs and v2.6 for Windows."

I am sure that iFunbox is more comprehensive, I was just telling people that phone clean was easier for the less tech savvy. I was able to clean up over a gig with it. I am sure I could free up more if I used iFunbox but like I said, it is a more daunting undertaking than I am comfortable with if that makes sense. I read alot of these posts and see a bunch of steps to do some things that many may find overwhelming so I wanted to point out an easy, albeit, less comprehensive fix for them.

So what exactly am I looking for in ifunbox? I remember when I first tried fixing my 'other' problem is that everytime I took videos off of the phone using the computer's auto play, my other would increase, as if it were making copies of the videos and not actually deleting them. I also had some lengthy voice recordings that I've unchecked in itunes so they don't appear on phone (yet I'm suspicious of them). I also went through and deleted all my text messages and other increased. WHat I've now noticed is that if I delete pictures I send via texts, the other doesnt increase, but if I go through and delete the conversations i.e. the words, it does...
When I look in ifunbox it shows;
app file sharing
general storage <-- nothing to click on there
camera(then camera 2 through 7)
raw file system
Theres a ton of folders under raw file system, but nothing looking like old voice memos etc. all the photos and such I see under raw file system are not any I've deleted or duplicates. Is there a particular place to see whats inside other?

My experience with iFunBox is if I had orphaned voice memos I found them in that Voice Memo folder. These were voice memos created by the native Voice Memo app that I deleted but were still hidden on my iPhone consuming "other."
The Raw File System folder is, as you discovered, where a lot of the "action" lies. Perhaps others have a better suggestion, but I ended up opening all the sub-folders in RSF and seeing what was there. When I found something I knew didn't belong, I deleted it. If I wasn't sure, I researched until I was sure.
Oh, and BTW, you may like the "list view" for the contents of these folders rather than the "icon view." When you display in list view the size of many folders and files is given. The size can often be a hint as to where to explore further.

This is what you should see. If you have the Voice memo problem, you'll find in the Voice Memo view of iFunbox that each voice memo is duplicated a number of times. If you've had this problem for some time, there maybe up to 70 duplicates (or at least, that is what I found). I currently, after cleaning up a few weeks back (see my report and charts above), have several duplicates for each Voice memo. They grow week by week, but with iFunbox I can just delete them from a jailed phone (see top line in graphic) and without using the Raw File System whenever I need to. Obviously fixing this bug in iOS should be a priority for Apple.

All right luigi and ruadh2, I looked and looked, no voice memos at all. I have them unchecked in my Itunes, and coincidentally there are duplicates in my itunes, but none to be found under voice memos on ifunbox. I went through and checked the music folders for duplicate songs by size and didn't see any of those either. Woe is me, thanks for the tips!!

And another couple interesting tidbits, the voice memos in itunes that are checked, (~6 less than 30 sec ea) dont show up under voice memos on phone.
The other thing I noticed is this morning I pulled a bunch of pictures off from photostream on my computer and then deleted those from both the camera roll and photostream. Then other grew after that by .03

This helped a lot, I went down from 5.5 gigs to 2.5. Not nearly as close to filling up my phone now.

IT'S MOSTLY MEDIA DATA STORED IN TEXT MESSAGES
If you're like me and send photos, gifs and videos back and forth between friends, groups of friend etc., a lot of media data that is stored within your text, therefore not under "Video" or "Photos" will remian in your text message history. In order to resolve this, you simply have to delete old messages.
I've always founds it rather annoying that Apple won't allow you to erase singular messages from a history, but in the case that you want to save your text history between friends for old time's sake, manually backup your iPhone and store the backup file for the occasion that you want to go back through your text after a simple restore.
Otherwise, simply go through your messages and delete everything. Five minutes ago, I did just that, and erased 5.68 Gb of "Other" data from my iPhone. This was after a worthless backup and restore that did nothing for me. The rest I am gussing is stored in my email accounts.
Other ways (not nearly effective I would imagine for someone who has had their device for a length of time and sends media in texts) to reduce other is simply by deleting an app and reinstalling, as has been mentioned previously. This saved me maybe up to 1Gb.

Thank you! Thank you! and Thank you again!
I just deleted all my texts, and I had many with pictures, and videos.
"Other" is now down to 0.83 GB.................. it was up to 12.9 GB
I am shocked this worked, but I am so happy and appreciative for the information.
Anyone having this problem, please do what is advised above.
p.s. I just forwarded important texts, pictures and videos to my camera and will sync on my computer.
